Its the #2 most popular masking agent

The Question should be, does PED use a big deal really?

Ortiz is a moron either way

Scenario A) he didn't tell vada he's taking medicine with ingredients on a banned list
    Scenario B) he's using peds

    Either way... he's a failure.

This is a weird one, an elite athlete should not have high blood pressure or be able to compete for a world title if they have such a problem they need high blood pressure meds.

The thing is though I'd say a high proportion of athletes at the last Olympics were probably on high blood pressure meds and well as getting a Tue list as long as there arm from the doctors.
Essentially its doping or using masking agents illegally under the guise of having a medical condition.

Chris froome won the tour Dr France, but if a insurance agency saw all the supposed conditions he had and all the medication he had to take they would probably reject him insurance and say he is too high risk, and he is one of the fittest men in the world.

No athlete thats elite should be on this stuff.

But this is political, Ortiz only got popped because for some reason he decided not to declare it this time when facing wilder, .its all to protect wilder and somehow get him some credibility without fighting anyone

Vada " Mr Ortiz, you will be under a very strict drug testing program. Please list all the prescribe medicine you are taking and any supplement you will take ".
    Ortiz " None".
Vada " You understand that if you test positive for any band substance on this list you will be banned. If you have any questions on a medication or supplement please run it by us before taking it".
    Ortiz "Understood".

Gets busted on drug test. Ortiz " Oh ahhh, high blood pressure. I was taking med for high blood pressure. What?? Ahh I was suppose to disclose this? "

    Extremely lame excuse by Ortiz.

Chris Froome has asthma. You can see him puffing on his meds in the middle of races all the time. Hell, half the peloton has some TUE for meds which w/o they'd only be human. roflmao

Frankie Sheehan got a drugs ban for using an asthma inhaler as a rugby player.

Its a brinchodialator and any cyclist using it has an unfair advantage whether he has asthma or not.

Its all a load of nonsense why can't they fit a nitro booster to the back of a guys bike because he had a gammy leg when he was young?

You can look at it two ways...

    1. It is not a big deal. Literally almost every single world class athlete abuses them.

    2. It is a monstrously big deal. Literally almost every single world class athlete abuses them.

What exactly did he test positive for? What was the name of it? When I looked this up earlier all I found was "blood pressure medication" which was too vague for me to do any research on.

As mentioned before Froome has Asthma. In fact a lot of top level endurance athletes suffer from asthma because they have damaged their lungs due to all the intense training it's known as athlete induced asthma. These elite athletes push their bodies further than they should all for the sake of competition and it results in a higher percentage of asthmatics among elite endurance athletes than in the general populace.

Though I'm unaware of anything similar regarding athletes and high blood pressure. So it is pretty suspicious.

    From what I understand:

Ortiz has been taking Atenolol and Losartan HCTZ. Both can be used for high blood pressure.

Atenolol is a beta blocker (effectively lowers your heartrate). It's banned in sports that require steady hands (eg, archery, marksmanship), but not in boxing. In fact, it's almost certainly detrimental to performance in a sport like boxing. So this should be fine.

Losartan HCTZ is a combo of Losartan and hydrochlorothiazide. Losartan appears to be fine, but hydrochlorothiazide is explicitly banned by WADA. Hydrochlorothiazide is a diuretic (causes high amount of urination), so it can be used to flush your system of various PEDs. Therefore, WADA has eplicitly banned hydrochlorothiazide as a masking agent.

If taking 750ml of IV fluid is not a big deal. I don't see why this is.
