Every picture ive ever seen of a boxer getting measured like tailoring shop were old black and white photos. The credibility of these measurements to me are lost.

Apparently you start shrinking in your 30s. Can lose 2" if you make it to age 80. Ortiz maybe about 56 then.

In basketball, lying about height is routine. Durant and Garnett are easily 7 foot tall (likely plus an inch) but don't want that association. Garnett doesn't want the association because he doesn't want to be considered as a true 7 foot C big man (his skills in those classic departments won't stack up with the 7 foot ATG's). Durant doesn't want the association to minimize his true freak nature. As far as true freak nature, same reason why LeBron didn't have his official weight updated between 2007-2013. Because folks might wonder how a 280 pound man can be as ripped and among the fastest players in the league, faster than 180 pound collegiate track stars. He went on a big diet to slim down weight his last year in Miami before he ever updated his listed weight for the league... Basically they list what makes them seem better. Like Cubans and their date of birth. Totally non-boxing related post and all, but it's the logic behind it.

For a boxing example, Joe Louis sweating his butt off in the final days before his match against Billy Conn despite no weight limit so that he would weigh in at 199, below 200, to minimize the appearance of "HW kingpin fights severely outmatched LHW." Or how the released press photos for Jack Johnson's title defense against Stanley Ketchel purposefully saw Ketchell wearing a big ass oversized puffy coat and putting coins in his pockets when he stood on the scale for the weigh in. Even Amir Khan did the same thing (big thick coat and scarf) for his early press photos facing off with Canelo.

fighters always exaggerate a little. It might be a half an inch, but I always wondered why fighters say they are taller in the fights, and I met them and they were much smaller. I am 5' 10" and seems like the guys who say they are 6ft tall I am looking at them eye to eye.. As for heavyweights, it is amazing how Ortiz being 6' 3" seems small now. That was a big heavyweight years ago when Larry Holmes was that same height... And I was watching Holmes v. Weaver the first fight, and Larry was 212 and Weaver was I think 201.. or close to that. Weaver would have been a small heavyweight now. and at the time his nickname was Hercules wasn't it?
