    Levels.

Povetkin was way, way better than Ortiz.

Povetkin wins. Ortiz was decent offensively when he got going, but also a plodder, Povetkin could fight more intensely, and for longer. Late stoppage or UD for Povetkin.

Ortiz is one of those that looks like he could've been better than he proved...

At the same time, when you're talking about guys who are all at the sharp end of the bell curve, the dropout rate as you go up the levels is steep - achievements and resumes are massive, and it's a brave man who backs the obviously less proven fighter.

I think Ortiz is too slow and dumb for Povetkin.

His chin was probably never that great either. You could argue the Wilder fights cracked it, but Ortiz went down on basically everything that landed in that first Wilder fight, there were so many KD's and one that was counted a slip early on too.

I remember when Ortiz stood still in front of Wilder's RH in the rematch and waited for it to pound him in the forehead. That was an interesting gameplan. I think he heard Wilder had some hand troubles and was trying to break his hand on the forehead, but it didn't work out in the end.

    Povetkin's team weren't confident: https://www.rbth.com/sport/2014/04/...itschko_rematch_continue_to_recede_35827.html

"Alexander is simply not familiar with the feeling of fear. Povetkin is a very brave man. Believe me, he's ready to box with the strongest contenders. I was the one who didn’t want to go ahead with the fight with Ortiz, he didn’t. We were not happy with the terms put forward by the opposing team, and it's not just about money" - Ryabinsky (Povetkin's promoter)

"Ortiz is a strong boxer, with many aces up his sleeve. The Cuban has had no defeats to date in his professional career and it is quite risky for him [Povetkin] going against a such a fighter after losing to Klitschko. The Russian may not be ready for a serious onslaught from the Cuban. Especially since Ortiz specializes with fighters similar in style to Povetkin. I have seen several of his fights and I can say that the Cuban can easily cope with promising boxers. Perhaps now Povetkin needs a weaker opponent." - Arbachakov (Russian former WBC flyweight champion)

If Povetkin's team had seen 2014 Ortiz in the same way they saw Charr or Takam (who also avoided Ortiz), they'd have fought him. But they didn't want any high-risk fights at that stage unless it was for a title (and even then they pulled out on Wlad twice).

Neither Ortiz or Povetkin have a top level win. Povetkin's best is beating Whyte with one punch while well behind (albeit with Povetkin at the end of his career), Ortiz's best win was outboxing and stopping Jennings. Both lost their biggest fights. They're on a similar level, though I'd say Ortiz was more dangerous on account of his size, stance and power.

Povetkin will win the poll though as usual but he is overrated:

 Pov via brutal KO. Ortiz is a myth, a myth Dosser fans have to hype like crazy because he's one of the extremely few opponents The Dosser ever beat who actually possesses skills and one of his only claims to legitimacy

And even worse, The Dosser rabbit punched him to death in their first fight, including setting up the KDs and finish with blatant rabbit punches, and he himself needed a convenient timeout from the commission to recover after Ortiz had him in big trouble.

Funny how their safety concerns didn't extend to Ortiz regarding any of this, eh? How very peculiar

Ortiz's best win is either Bryant Jennings or Charles Martin

Povetkin is way more accomplished and better amateur and pro, way better resume, much better chin too.

He only lost one fight in his prime both amateur and pro which he didn't avenge, to a prime much bigger and longer Wlad (who KO'd The Dosser in the gym with big gloves and head gear on) and Wlad was allowed to get away with blue murder in that one mauling, octopus grabbing and fouling him to death.

Every single one of his 7 amateur defeats in 132 fights was avenged, including beating the great Roberto Cammarelle x 5, and unlike Ortiz who couldn't win poop at any of the major championships like the Olympics and World Amateur Championships. Conversely, Povetkin won gold at both, and he won European gold x 2.

And prior to that he scaled the heights as a kickboxer:

    World champion
    European champion
    World Junior champion

    That's just his amateur accomplishments

Here's the alarmingly easy to hit Ortiz getting his ass whooped and dropped (which for some reason the ref chose not to count) and stopped on the outscored rule by Alexander Povernov who isn't fit to lace Povetkin's boots. Watch what happens when it dawns on Pov that Ortiz's head is a magnet for right hands?

This. Povetkin in his prime also had incredible solid chin.

Ortiz has a suspect chin Povetkin hits hard has a solid chin and has the skills to get Ortiz out of there.

    Povetkin by TKO/KO.
