Hammer got KOed years ago, when he was still a young kid. He'd easily beat Wach now. I'd pick him to beat Duhaupas and Adamek as well, don't know enough about Dinu and Washington could edge it. He's not a brilliant opponent, but he's a solid guy with a bit of power and a bit of skill. I don't see anyone particularly praising this fight though. Ortiz can clearly do better.
I quite like this fight, if Ortiz has grown slightly older over night and Hammer turns up in shape then this could get interesting
Hammer is a tough guy, but Adamek, Washington and Dinu all easily outbox him. He might have a chance against Duhuapas, but id still favour Duhuapas. Hammer is tailor made for Ortiz. Slow, plodding, feather fisted and only knows how to come forward. The point being, the fights are there for him, hes just doesnt want to take them. Apart from Wilder, hes never faced anyone with a hard punch. And like Ive said since Wilder decked him, hes just hanging around for one more cashout payday. Ortiz vs Kauffman was enough to show his legs are gone. Hell KO Hammer early, his style is perfect for Ortiz to look good against, but Ortiz is old and ripe for the picking by any top 10 fighter, he just wont fight them.
I can't agree. Hammer gave tough fight to Fury and picked apart Wallisch. He is much better than you suggest. I expect win for Ortiz but it will go past middle rounds for sure.
Some of you should show some respect. There are fans still in a coma after watching Povetkin v Hammer, now more innocent lives are to be put at risk? Promoter needs to kidnap Hammer's nearest and dearest and make their release conditional on him trying to throw at least a punch every other round.
im not an ortiz fan BUT stay busy fight whilst the other top dogs are sorting their own stuff out. woundnt mind a joshua / ortiz fight if wilder and fury get it on.
Well, I like that Ortiz is staying active. If it means we get him and Joyce next then I'm relaxed about it. Hammer is reasonably decent. A good gatekeeper type.
You're selling Hammer short, Vykus. He beats current Adamek and would be at least competitive with all those other names. I'd pick him as favourite. He recently KOed the undefeated Wallisch and outpointed the then undefeated Teper in a fight where he boxed mainly off the backfoot. He might not be a world beater, but he's tough, knows his fundamentals, and can give a good night's work to anyone, Ortiz included.
It’s an alright fight. I’d prefer to see Ortiz in with another top contender though. Hammer is a solid guy, probably top 20, with a lot of experience and a few respectable wins to his name. Nice to see Ortiz staying active but he’s going to be 40 after this fight. If he is ever going to be in a big fight again he needs to get on it
Hammer is indeed not that bad. I see many people blaming Ortiz to not step up, but I really believe nobody in the top-10 is really keen to fight him in the first place, even at 64 years old.
I like to rag on Ortiz but you're right. He's in a difficult position where he's simply on the bottom of everyone list. If you fight him he doesn't bring you much money, doesn't get you that high a ranking or a mandatory shot, some will say you just beat an old man and only hardcore fans really know who he is. What does Whyte or Usyk or Joshua or Miller get in beating Ortiz? All of them have better options and so he's never really ever picked. Ortiz's career has been riddled with poor decisions which is why he's in the position he's in. His only viable option now is Joyce and that's because Joyce is in a similar situation where he doesn't have any better options available to him.
