I think it's unbelievable that this guy only fought Wilder. So many good fights that could have been made with him. He passed the eye test. Wish we could have seen him vs Chisora, Whyte, Parker, Povetkin, Joshua, Fury, etc. But all we got was Wilder and Jennings. He's old as hell now and possibly done.
I don't think the eye test is good enough for me. it's like Wilder KO percentage if we look at many heavy handed fighters on there run up can be a little misleading because they're literally sparking everyone out. it's only when someone faces top compettition can you actually gauge power. It's not easy to knock out elite opposition. So for Wilder his record ia deceiving as the only live body who we can compare who has fought others is Fury and he failed on three attempts and Fury hardly had a rep for being iron chinned before that trilogy. The defenders of Wilder will go "Yeah but Ortiz was unbeaten" Yeah but against who? Dave Allen? For me personally Wilder and Ortiz are completely unproven as they failed to fight any of the top dogs in the division. Also outboxing Wilder is hardly an achievement considering how limited his skill set was. He's the worst boxer to have held a major belt that long if anyone knows someone worse please tell me. I would genuinly be interested.
Well, if he wins on New Year's Day, I believe he'll be the mandatory for the Joshua-Usyk II winner. So, maybe he'll have gotten shots at all the belts by this time next year. Ortiz-Usyk sounds good. So does Ortiz-Joshua.
thats pro boxing these days (actually for many years) for you. fighters only fight journeymen, build a bull**** record......and then want to cash out is multi-million dollar fight. sad.
That would be a fun evening on this board if Luis Ortiz wins the IBF, WBO and WBA heavyweight titles in 2022.
Ortiz is yesterdays news. He has been hammered twice by Wilder in the only fights he has stepped up in. He's overrated and old.
Would love to see him gatekeep somebody like Joyce or Hrgovic. Not sure I'm interested in seeing him fight Fury, Usyk or Joshua as there's only 1 winner realistically.
Easy to pass the eye test if you're not fighting anyone that good... The better the opposition, the more you can deduce from the eye test. IMHO Ortiz has never proven to be anything more than a gatekeeper level fighter - Chisora would've been interesting, the others probably beat him fairly comfortably.
He has good skills. But his there's a big gap between Wilder and his next best opponent to properly rate him. He looks good to me, but yes, that's never enough.
