Came across this trailer after noticing it on the Duran vs Moore undercard in '83. Looked up more about it, Collins took a savage beating for 10 rounds, and it was only after the fight had ended that everyone realised the padding had been removed from Restos gloves. Basically, Collins had been battered with bare fists.

Resto & his trainer where arrested and imprisoned, and banned from boxing for life, and Collins, drunken, depressed and permanently injured drove his car off a road and died age 22. He was unbeaten before this fight.

Anyone here remember this at the time? Anyone seen or know when the documentary shows? Very very interesting.....

I have the fight and just watched it recently and must say....they should have burned Resto and Lewis at the stake! God it was awful!

Panama Lewis is a sub-human piece of ****.

He should just swallow a bottle of aspirin along with 10 shots of gin.

I remember the fight well. Now, Billy and his dad are dead, Resto is out of prison, and Lewis is back training fighters. The wrong guys died.

I saw the fight on closed circuit and it was brutal.

I think one of the Collin's corner got one of the gloves, or shook hands
with Resto and felt no padding in the gloves...something like that.

    Everybody then went berserk.

Of course, Panama Lewis was the one that gave Aaron Pryor a sip from the "magic bottle" before Pryor knocked out Arquello.

It was Billy Collins Sr. who went over to shake Resto's hand. When he felt the gloves he started shouting and the commissioners came in and took the gloves.

Resto served 2 1/2 years pf a 3 year sentence. Lewis was sentenced to 6 years. I don't know how much time he served.

The NYSAC was such a disgrace that night. You know they really screwed up if the ref job in Duran-Moore was only minor compared to how negligent they were in the undercard.

Why the hell weren't they around to inspect and make sure nothing funny was going on?
