At WW Oscar Del a Hoya (12 rounds) Felix Trinidad (12 rounds) Ike Quartey (12 rounds) Donald Curry (12 rounds) Lloyd Honeyghan (12 rounds) Vernon Forrest (12 rounds) Miguel Cotto (12 rounds) How does he go? Undefeated?
Yeah, I was joking really. H2H he’d be a challenge for most great WWs and most of the guys here are either borderline greats at the weight (Trinidad and Curry are probably legit great WWs - top 25-30) or talented but not great WWs (ODLH, Quartey, etc). I would pick him to win against every one of those. I think a few would give him a decent fight though.
The thread title on the main menu looked like. LUIS RODRIGUEZ V GEORGE CROWCROFT. LOLAO. I pick you george. Youth over experience plus I feel you may be an underrated body puncher
We've sparred before. He was good, really good. I did drop him with a sweet left Uppercut to the body tho. His arms were long, I was getting hit with Jabs I wouldn't normally be hit with. He struggled with my southpaw stance. If we didn't have headguards on my left hand that I was landing repeatedly would've slowly ground out a KO. I think I win the fight but it's 7/5 type odds
I like Rodriguez against all these guys apart from Curry, assuming we're talking about a peak, in-form Curry here. I know he never fulfilled expectations, but Curry by 1984-85 really did look the complete fighter and, of all the guys above, he's the one with the balance, economy of movement and close quarters fighting skills to offset Rodriguez. Think I might take Curry by decision in that one. Rodriguez gets past everyone else, albeit Quartey's style could give him problems.
Yeah, I was thinking that. Oscar didn’t have the power to hurt Rodriguez or the gas tank to fight well enough over 12 or 15 besides it’s nowhere near as skilled.
Quartey simply didn’t have the volume or activity to keep up with Rodriguez. I’ve no doubt he’d win some rounds but also being a fighter who’d often tire and have defensive lapses I think it’s a routine win for Rodriguez. I pick Rodriguez to beat all of those guys assuming all are at their bests.
Quartey was way too robotic to beat ANY of the welterweight greats. A guy like Rodriguez, Gavilan, or Benitez would make Quartey look foolish.
