Arocho is muscling in on Cruz, throwing uppercuts past the guard as Cruz is jabbing and dropping the right hand up top on Arocho's hairline. Big left hooks by Arocho stepping forward, glancing off Cruz's gloves and by his ear. Cruz squats and jabs the body on the outside, and then moves in with overhand rights behind the jab, clapping down on Arocho's left shoulder or hitting the bottom of his jaw. Arocho needs tape fixed on his gloves. Time in. Arocho is sticking his left jab in aggressively past Cruz's, while Cruz is dropping his head down behind his elbow and firing the jab partially blind.

During his time in the neutral corner, Bryant Cruz was shaking out his leg. He rolled his ankle when he was knocked down in the 1st and seems to have more trouble recovering from that.

 

Brian Adams has it 20-17 to Arocho.

Ronnie Shields gave the 2nd to Cruz (feeling his punches were more effective) and has it 19-18 Arocho.

 

Round 3

Arocho is backing up and extending his jab, making Cruz lunge at him and fall off-balance with jabs to the body and straight combos upstairs while Arocho sways down to either side. Cruz slides in and jabs the belly, then darts out with his guard up. 1-2 by Arocho, aiming the jab high and cross down at the belt-line, but stuffed and countered by a stiff jab on the nose, snapping his head back as he steps in. 1-2 by Cruz, quickly covering up to block Arocho's double jab. 1-2 by Cruz, missing over the shoulderblades as Arocho falls in awkwardly and into a brief embrace.

Quiñones thinks the third was scrappy and difficult to score. Adams thought it was clear for Cruz, and Shields also chimes in that Cruz did excellent work getting his boxing rhythm established and consistently landing good shots on Arocho.

 

Round 4

Double jabs by Arocho. Cruz blocks and throws combinations as they step together and clasp up. Arocho is hurt by a right uppercut leaning inside. Cruz follows with a swatting left hook and then lands another uppercut. Arocho holds on. Cruz whips in a pair of uppercuts on the body as Arocho is shoving him toward the ropes. Triple jab by Cruz backing out and hopping in place to catch his balance. Straight rights to the body on the outside by Cruz. Arocho doubles his jab coming forward but takes a straight volley to the face.

Quiñones says you have to respect both guys; Cruz for responding so well after being knocked down in the 1st and Arocho for dismissing his corner and the ring doctor and insisting he is OK despite the bad cut that Cruz opened up with a legal punch. He says the lack of panic shown by either shows true professionalism and tells you they both have what doing well in this sport requires. Adams concurs by essentially rephrasing the sentiment, as does Shields with a nod. (clearly yet to master the fact that commentary is generally not a visual medium :yep - it just happens that GFL shows the broadcast table in between rounds in lieu of the commercial breaks that are seen on tape delayed television broadcasts of the Lou DiBella Broadway Boxing series)

 

Shields has it 38-37 to Cruz; Adams 38-37 to Arocho.

 

Round 5

Arocho is waiting on the outside, slinging his left arm around Cruz's neck as Cruz comes in snapping the left jab. Arocho flaps down with a right as Cruz is jabbing in, missing. Cruz is moving in and out, guard up tight, scoring with the jab and blocking or tying up inside when Arocho begins to load up.

Round 6

Arocho is walking forward, absorbing a series of huge shots from Cruz. Overhands and uppercuts thrown by Cruz while sitting on the ropes as Arocho comes in wearily flurrying with arm punches, head getting rocked by several good rights. Double jab and chopping right by Cruz darting in. Arocho backs him out with a stiff jab. Right hand across the back of the head by Arocho coming forward. HUGE looping right by Arocho, turning Cruz's head. Arocho is coming on strong here in the last half minute. Cruz tosses a weak throwaway jab and then crushes a big right under Arocho's earlobe. Arocho pushes Cruz into the ropes and lands a series of hammering blows, hurting Cruz just before the bell.

10-9 Cruz, INCREDIBLY close round...lots of seesaw momentum...Cruz probably in control for more of it but the most damaging stuff came from Arocho...

Shields has it to Cruz by two points.

Adams has it to Cruz by one point.

Quiñones says he wasn't actively scoring it himself but can see making the argument for Arocho edging it by a point.

 

Shields calls this invaluable experience for Cruz.
