Somebody ask me earlier in the day when they was looking at the odds what was the best chance of an upset on the card. I didn't even list Campbell, one of the biggest upsets of the year for sure.
This was a 50/50 fight when i saw the two fighters.. I tried to put in a 3 way parlay on Barrosa, Mendy and Bathelemy woulda been 2 out of 3 so far but bovada was being a ****. atsch
It was not just in the last round. All through the fight, the corner were assuring Luke that he was on top and banking the rounds, when he was clearly behind to my eyes (so at least the corner should have had some doubt about if the scores were going their way). The contrast with Bellew's corner was pretty instructive. Dave Coldwell gave Bellew a rollocking after every close round - telling him it was in the balance and he had to win the next - seems no coincidence that I had Bellew winning only by upping his activity and clearly winning the last two. That said, the main problem for Luke was his lack of power. I have not seen the punch stats, and I will concede that Luke maybe landed a few unacknowledged bodyshots. But, the difference was that Luke looked visibly hurt by a lot of what Mendy landed. Mendy never betrayed any sign of being hurt at all.... and the name of the game is "effective aggression". Incidentally, I reckon a good poker face re being hit is one of Mayweather Jr's most under-appreciated assets. When he gets hit he rarely betrays any harm (which is why in a 49 fight career, pundits are still hung up on one punch by Mosley and one by Cotto), so you tend to assume he must have slipped it; which makes him look like more of a defensive genius and allows him to bank rounds he perhaps does not deserve.
Yes everytime Mendy hit him in the body he winced like a *****. He's got the Amir Khan entitlement disease of believing pitter patta flurries does enough to win you fights. **** Campbell! He's a fraud, and then saying that he won after the fight when he got battered, proved to be an absolute ****house.
I tend to give fighters a pass for that (other than in complete white-washes). I have never boxed, but I suspect having the courage to go in the ring and keep fighting hard, even when taking a beating, requires a certain amount of self-delusion. Being an objective realist is probably a negative. I am a very keen rock climber and I have noticed my friends and myself do the same myself on hard routes: diminish the true odds and risks of failure to give ourselves the mental oomph needed to go "a muerte" and hit peak effort. My own preferred genre of climbing is hard sport climbing (bolted rock - little risk re injury - so you can have repeated ground-up attempts at the same route - often over a period of years - really pushing the limits of your ability). On a recent project, I fell off the same crux move at least 50 times over months of sieging, but then landed it and bagged the route when all seemed lost (bad conditions, tired). The only reason I eventually succeeded was because I deliberately made myself ignorant of the previous months of failure in circumstances more conducive to success.
Not quite a fanboy but I am one of those clowns:roll: Did he not realise he was being outworked and outperformed,if you havent the power you need to dominate with work, disappointed the whole night was an eye opener on the Hearn so called "stars" A big reality check and an even bigger learning curve is in order Mr Hearn
I thought Luke Campbell was white and Anthony Joshua black.. and Frankie Gavin metallic gold..? I thought Luke was in and AJ bad?
You can say what you want of course, but its ****ing stupid when anyone who isn't in the pound for pound top ten is called a bum. How is an Olympic gold medallist a bum.
Just needs to learn to fight going backwards, lateral movement and learn how to deal with big tough come forward pressure fighters. Get sparring with bigger agressive fighters and learn how to use his talents in those situations
So is Audrely Harrison not a bum because of his Olympic Medal? Get the **** off his ****, the man's a fraud, and when you're a fraud, you're a ****ing fraud. There's no two ways about it
