    Cheers mate, great post.

A lot of people have just written his loss of as a bad night, or he had a cold before the fight.

Either way hope he learns and succeeds, he clearly lost and campbell himself thought he won, he needs to accept he lost and learn.

He is 27, not as young as some people think, me mate was adamant he was early 20's but he also thinks Joshua is the best heavyweight since Tyson..........enough said ha

Your mate sounds like a casual haha Campbell has the ability to win a world title but his not going to be a world beater. To win it his going to have to become a boring fighter and picks his fights carefully .

He is deffo a casual mate haha, took with me a few times but he just doesnt get it, score rounds properly, an just backs the favourites, or nations darling like AJ.

Best was when I took him to Prescott V Khan, he threw a load of cash on Khan an missed the KO.

Thanks for your insight mate, I could see Luke had the skills but prior to his defeat his hardest fighter was Coyle, hard to gage whether going to be world level against opponents like that.

No disrespect meant to Tommy btw, he loves a s****, cant fault his heart or *****. His game plan v Derry was great until he got caught, just feel he his British level an will probably become a punchbag for other matchroom fighters.

This is sad that he has to make up the flat excuse. But with the sky hype machine behind him he has to say something

His got serious shortcomings in his skill set and needs help working on them

I am not so sure it is just an excuse tbh, i have personal experience with my brother when he was struggling at the weight and because he emphasised so much on getting the weight off he would feel totally flat in the final week and it would show on fight night too. At the time neither of us could explain why when we knew he was fit but after speaking with a sport scientist it all became clearer.

The sports scientist said that it could be down to his weight making but that it could also be down to mental fatigue i.e. pressure to win, being in the spotlight or something going on in your personal life. Either of these could bring out flat performances when your body is fit but things just don't seem right.

No one will be able to say for definite what the problem was but to say that it must be an excuse is a bit unfair on Luke in my eyes.

David that's just not the case maybe campbell has zero issues making weight the man was able to weigh in as a super bantemweight with same day weight in the AMS and is now at lightweight

And his changed his story this is the first we heard of not feeling right

Hi Dave, Please dont think I am being ignorant as I genuinely not being, so I apologise in advance if it comes across that way.
What is your brothers name? What weight is he? Is he still boxing? How is he doing? If no longer boxing how was his career?
Again, I genuinely dont know, asking as interested an not being a div mate

If you read my post properly it was weight making issues with my brother but the sport scientist also said that it could be mental fatigue! It is well known that his dad is battling cancer and after going through losing my mum to cancer and watching what it did to her imo he is performing as well as could be expected. My brother Matty tried to train for 1 fight when our mum was ill and afterwards said that he couldn't go through that again for all the money in the world!

I have been in boxing and around boxing for 23 years now at all levels from novice amateur right through to professional level and no boxer straight after a fight admits anything being wrong!! They will usually tell you a week plus later once all of their emotions have settled down and they are thinking straight.

Think of all the things that are going on around Luke and it is easy to see that 1 or all of these things could make him feel flat:

    1. Dad's Illness
    2. Sky Hype Machine putting pressure on him
    3. Expectations, he is an Olympic Gold Medalist and is supposed to beat everyone

I don't look at his age as much of a problem but I think he has been pushed forward too quickly, there was loads of fights that could have been made at British Level and he could have been done with another 18 months of learning imo, his style does need a bit of tweeking and Yvan Mendy has fought Postol at Light Welterweight and lost against Tatli for the Euro belt. That means he is no mug and lets be honest, Luke hasn't fought the best at domestic level so for Eddie to put him in against Yvan was a massive risk, if it paid off then Luke would have been thrown in even deeper so it is maybe just as well he lost a close decision because now Eddie will have to build him up properly.

Lee McAllister is the one I am speaking about with the weight issues, he has now retired after a career full of injuries that made his career stop start. He had a good career in my eyes was Scottish Lightweight Champion, Commonwealth Champion at both Light weight and Light Welter, was stopped by John Murray for the British Title and Retired with an injury against Denis Shafikov for the European title.

My other brother Matty is still boxing and is the Scottish Welterweight Champion and is now 10-0.

The Mendy fight reminded me of the Nevin final. Campbell running scared and afraid of getting clipped

That's how he always fought as an amateur its his style. Have a massive reach and height advantage and box on the back foot at range.

Very interesting insight, thanks for that. Should act as a warning to people in too much of a hurray to write someone off after a shock defeat.

His got huge holes in his game, he can't and has never fought on the inside in his career and his standout amateur career revolved around him have a big size advantages and playing a game of tag from the outside with smaller opponents. He isn't cut out for the pros
