Romero is a beast inside the ring and yet he makes it a point to empathize with his vanquished opponent once the fight has ended. It must be difficult for him to control the coexisting forces that make up his character.

I wonder how he manages to cope with the fact that he left his wife and son for some German ***** while partaking in international competion. Clearly a righteous man of god.

Relationships never end nicely. One can only speculate that he never stopped financially and emotionally supporting his ex-wife and child.

I need a valid link for this $hit. It's not that I don't believe you, but I can't find any consistent story. I ran across this https://www.foxsports.com/ufc/story...ly-behind-in-cuba-to-pursue-mma-dreams-101014
That brought him to American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Fla. Romero, his wife and daughter live in nearby Miami, which is a great fit for him, since there is a large Cuban and Hispanic community.

    https://www.thefamouspeople.com/profiles/yoel-romero-15573.php
Yoel currently stays in Miami and plans on bringing his wife and daughter along with his parents to the USA.
This site also says that Yoel entered the ring again in November 2016 and knocked his opponent Chris Weidman out in the third round and in the next fight in July 2017, he lost to Michael Bisping in an anonymous decision.

The last link obviously isn't reputable, but it's one of the few showing up on a search. Where did you see this? Was it on one of the countdowns?

Yeah one of the countdowns - said that he thought his son would "understand." his decision.

The daughter is with the German woman. He has a son back in Cuba.

An hour rarely goes by when Yoel Romero doesn’t think about all he has left behind.

The UFC middleweight contender defected from Cuba to Germany in 2007 following a wrestling tournament in the country. Romero had relatives who lived in Germany and also knew it would be hard for him to pursue an MMA career had he remained in Cuba.

When he relocated, though, Romero had to say goodbye to his mother, father and a child.

"It’s never going to stop hurting," Romero told FOX Sports in a recent interview through an interpreter. "It’s always going to hurt."

Romero’s story is unlike some others. He calls his defection "pretty simple." Romero competed in a wrestling tournament in Germany and ended up staying there for years. He met a woman there and married her. They had a daughter.

But if Romero, 37, wanted to continue his MMA journey, he had to move to the United States. The competition level in Germany and nearby Poland was weak. Romero, with his Olympic wrestling silver medal pedigree and boxing experience, was rapidly becoming a big fish in a small pond.

I don't think it's difficult at all. He likely felt bad about not making weight. Rockhold didn't seem to want to hear whatever it was that was being said, but Rockhold has his own personality that many fans despise.

You never answered my question the other day.

Now that Castro has passed, are the defectors allowed to return and see their loved ones or no?

Thanks, I missed the "child" part of this. I don't see anything about a wife. The child obviously has a mother, but this doesn't say they were in an active relationship. This doesn't say where the child resides, but it obviously isn't with the father. Does he provide financially for the child? There are things I would need to know before making an informed opinion.

People who constantly spout about God/Jesus etc etc are generally the biggest hypocrites. Holyfield did the same while having 10 kids to 5 different woman. I wonder what sort of a father he's been to those 10 kids ?
