mbp,my last post to you.You and Pachilles deserve each other...Where and why did I go "down this route too" ? Pachilles slandered me from out of the blue, this morning whilst I tried to be civil with him. Would you like to be associated with killing "innocent Vietnamese women, and babies",with a slanderous remark, below the belt.? I think not. For what it's worth, he is an ignorant bufoon, who attacks his victims using not serious boxing knowledge, but patented ,ignorant slurs. Good day to you...

Why all the unwarranted abuse of Burt B? He is civil to everyone and, a fine poster. When someone gives it to you ,its ok to give it back, as I and Mendacity have shown, but Burt never insults anyone, this is just internet bullying. Uncalled for ,unwarranted and , pretty cowardly.

I don't get it either. Some of these ***gots just feel the need to go in on the views of anyone born before 1980... They have no concept of the value that burt's primary experiences can give us in painting an accurate picture of the perceptions of the time. Shame really, and it's always coming from the mongiest of mongs.

I wouldn't call it abuse or bullying. I didn't say he did that. He gets a pass for a lot because of his 'status'. He is condescending and expects respect just because he's older than the majority. I'm sure he's a lovely man, but on this forum he is repetitive and disrespectful to other opinions due to arrogance.

Whiskey from Scotland is called Scotch worldwide. I suppose i understand if you're actually from Scotland and recognize no other whiskey as whiskey, but here in the States we make the distinction based on region and method. Unless you think there's no difference between say, Bourbon or Rye whiskey.

By the way, Burt is generally pretty polite and I've never seen him directly demand status or respect... Except when people **** on him for holding views like those often found in his time(like on Dempsey, for example). He's an aging man. You're supposed to have a degree of understanding concerning their mood and cognitive ability. Or at least a decent human being might try. I don't know, you seem like kind of a shithead to me.

Bourbon isn't whiskey, Whiskey is Whiskey, whisky is the Irish version. You are 21 or something, you aren't a connoisseur. It's tragic.

To be fair Burt, it was sarcastic but it has an element of truth. You are condemn Ali's anti-war stance. A stance that has a basis of not wanting to kill/**** innocents or support his country doing just that. Ali wasn't the first to be anti-war. If you're going to be judgemental, don't get upset when you get called on the specifics of your judgement

I'm sure you'll come back talking about patriotism, would you be patriotic and support a war similar to the ones Nazi's brought to Europe? Ask yourself who was ethically better the patriotic German's or those who fought against Hitler? In fact isn't it patriotic to not want a war that sees your fellow countrymen die. Is it not patriotic to want to see your country doing the right thing? Ie not killing innocents

Some wars such as WW2 are just and worth the bloodshed for the overall good. Other wars are not and many believe Vietnam to be one of these.

Whiskey and whisky are just alternate spellings for the same thing: a distilled spirit made from fermented grain mash. Which bourbon most certainly is. And yeah, i'm young, but i've been drinking whiskey in some capacity since I was about 15. My dad was generous(and awesome) enough to share drams of various single malts with me during that time. I'm definitely not a connoisseur, i hope to never become one because i'm pretty sure i'd be an alcoholic at that stage , but i'm pretty comfortable in saying that I know my whiskey pretty well. I definitely don't have much experience with malts over 15+ years as far as scotch goes, but then again i don't think that stuff is worth it for someone my age anyway.

Whisky = Scotch, Wiskey = Irish, Bourbon=Bourbon as far as I know anyway. With Scotch there's single malt, vatted malt (or is it blended malt now), blended.....Islay, Speyside, Highland (regions)...peated, unpeated.....ahhhh my liver hurts thinking about it

Legally only Scotch can be labelled Whisky here (I think)

Legal schmegal. People nerd out too much about the terminology. It's just whiskey man. You only need to really know two things

1)Jack Daniel's is for tools that don't know better
2)Only fruitcakes put ice in good scotch

S,I thank you for this post, and I want to assure you my cognitive ability
has not diminished.Aging has not withered me as yet, and they say in general, "a man is as old as he feels ". But I say " a man is as old as the girl he feels ".Thanks S,there are still thoughtful and good fellows on ESB.

Thanks mcvey : it is posters like you and many others on this board, knowledgeable and civilized, that makes me put up with non-boxing slurs from people that truly have nothing constructive to say on ESB.Most oif us differ on opinions as to the merits of certain boxers, but we lay
politics aside, and POST on what the THREAD asks at the time. Cheers m.:good

If you are going to lecture get it right!
Whisky is the Scottish version,Whiskey the Irish .
The Scottish derivative is "uisge beatha"
The Irish is " uisce beatha "
Both mean water of life and date back to at least 1400.
It's probable Irish Whiskey came first.
Personally I prefer Vodka or Gin, if I drink spirits.
