Before Gatti v Ward and Corrales v Castillo, Lupe Pintor v Wilfrefo Gomez was a brutal fight for 14 rounds....both fighters gave more than they new they could, took more punishment that they could and yet they stand toe to toe for 14 drilling rounds, until Bazooka beautiful combination put an end to the bout!... A great stoppage by Arthur Mercante Sr....for me one of the greatest fight AT, for sure the greatest SuperBantan fight ever.. ..:happy Both took incredible punishment and the perennial ' never the same fighters after this fight'....for their weight category two of the greatest in their weight class, and Bazooka arguably the best Bantan weight ever...which lead me to say the jump from 122 to 126 is the toughest in boxing!! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3IlsHV8ZGUk
i am more concern about the level of commitment these two fighters displayed in the fight... 14 rounds of brutal exchanges!!:bbb
That's all you got to say, I can see you dint even read the post....which is correct.....atsch Is this a spelling bee fodum?atsch
1982 was an amazing year, such great fights in the last couple months. Gomez-Pintor was a classic and is arguably the best Mexican-Puerto Rican fight ever. Pryor-Arguello 1 was outstanding, so was Chacon-Limon 4. The tragedy of Mancini-Kim sort of overshadowed Pryor-Arguello 1, or at least that was what I have read, as it took place a day after it. That was an action packed fight too. All those fights took place within a month. And a few months before that, Holmes-****ey was the richest fight ever at that point. That was a pretty good action fight too.
Actually to both , Pintor and Wilfredo went tot to toe for 14 amazing rounds... 14!!! Exchanging punched that would have Zko any other opponent long before the 14.... Both fighters were I'm trouble , both fighters fought out of trouble until Wilfredo's beautiful combo in the 14.... Kudos to the master Arthur Mercante Sr. Who understood the place and magnitude taking precautions but let them fight out of trouble! This was at the highest level all the way around!!
I know, I saw it as it was happening live in a livingroomful of Mexicans. It was on the undercard of Hearns-Benitez if I'm not mistaken. Gomez-Pintor is one of those ATG classics that will forever be etched in my memory. I was 15 at the time an allready loving watching boxing. The Hearns-Benitez fight was a total letdown after having witnessed Gomez and Pintor really laying it all out on the line. How about one of Gomez' cornerman coming out to center ring and carrying Wilfredo back to his corner at the end of one of the late rounds? WOW!!! Thats how much energy these guys were exherting. They left everything in the ring. Everything!!! I know its brutal, but I damn miss 15 round fights!
The trainer picking him to carry to his corner because he was hurt, that round Pintor just connected brutal combos, and Wilfredo just absorbing the punishment!
