mccarty lost to willard and jeff clarke-no disgrace- and maybe Wuest. he was pretty good and promising but hardly the ATG PEOPLE TRY TO MAKE HIM OUT TO BE.

 

Surley the bottom line is that we don't know what he could have been had he lived. He was only 21 when he died.

 

aCCEPTING THAT lUTHER WAS ONLY 21 WHEN HE DIED AND THAT HE DEFINITELY WAS GOOD, I JUST THINK THERE IS ENEOUGH IN HIS CAREER LIKE THE STEWART, CLARK, WILLARD AND WUEST FIGHTS TO SUGGEST HE WAS NO ATG IN THE MAKING. HIS WINS OVER FLYNN, PALZAR AND KAUFMAN WERE IMPRESSIVE IN THEIR MANNER BUT NONE OF THEM WERE GREAT AND INDEED ONLY PALZAR HAD NOT PASSED HIS PEAK.

 

To be fair some papers called the Willard fight a draw.

Idon't think that McCarthys career is suficient to determine what he would have become. If Jack Johnson had died after he fought Joe Choynski for example we could asume based on what we had seen that he would only ever make a second rater.
