How's Ron Lyle doing in the 1990 s /early 2000 s ? Plenty of big hitters to go against and a few belts to pick up . Holy field , Tyson, old Foreman ,moorer , Tua , Rahman etc ?
Lyle makes it as a to contender. If he fought Lewis on the night Rahman got to him, he'd be briefly the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. He fares about as well as he did in the 1970s.
Lyle gets knocked out by Tua Tyson Lennox Foreman Lyle gets out pointed by Bowe Holyfield Moorer But he does ice Rahman, maybe moorer if he can catch his little @ss
A prime Lyle would do well against Holyfield, He could possibly out box Tua. Hell if Rahman could then why not a prime Lyle. If Lyle had hte power to hurt young Foreman (Even though Foreman was rusty). Then he has the power to stop Tyson, Bowe, Lewis. Tua was knocked down by Rahman so Lyle could do it as well. In any case he would do well against Pretty much any heavyweight you could name in his prime. He would be some and lose to some.
That's the thing with Lyle. He could give a top heavy hell and look crap in his next fight. But so could a few 90/s heavys .I see him giving Lewis, holy , Bowe hard fight s but losing. I see him beating rahman , Bruno , Morrison , Ruddock .Tyson 90 s may ko him fast but it could easily be the other way round .I see guys like Lewis and holy field stopping him in war's, so he never gets top level .
Lyle hurting Foreman hardly equates to him having a shot at stopping Bowe, Lewis, Tyson. Tyson and Lewis would be expected to dispatch him quickly.
I could see even the Tyson who made Golota quit beating Lyle. Although Tyson would struggle significantly more at that point and may even be taken by Lyle. An early 90's Tyson convincingly stops Lyle. With Lewis, at best he'd do about as well as he did against Ali, but the end would be near. On the right night Lyle could do what McCall and Rahman did. A prime Holyfield, say the one who beat Foreman or Douglas convincingly stops Lyle. Ditto for Bowe
Lewis is a bigger man than Foreman and quite possibly a harder puncher. He certainly demonstrated his power against much bigger guys than those Foreman fought in the 70s. Tyson is a faster starter than Foreman.
