He lost by KO against one "nobody" when he was 20 years old and he avenged this loss 4 times, all by KOs
Wills still had one win over close to prime McVea. Beaides, losing to someone as good as McVea when you didn't reach his best is nothing to be ashamed of.
Langford wasn't too small for HW division, he was the best HW fighter at some point of his career. Losing him is nothing to be ashamed of, Lyle would lose to prime Langford too.
From 1915 to 1925 Wills was dominant across good competition. He beat the best white and black contenders from that period until Sharkey loss.
He beat Uzcudun, Maloney, Fulton and Renault. These wins are not worse than Lyle's best wins.

What? hell yes, his pack of wins are worse than lyle's .shavers, bonavena,Peralta,Jimmy Ellis, joe bugner, ledoux and buster mathis.
Plus he dropped Foreman twice and looked very competitive against George(who would have ****ed up the full division in the era of godfrey).

And langford was a 180 pounder in his prime? He was not even a hw.(at 28 he weighed 161 pounds). So it is not even a debate

You say this because you are aware of who 1970s boxers are. What makes guys like Peralta, LeDoux, Bugner, Ellis or Mathis better than them?
