What's your opinion on this stoppage. Ali thought it was fair whereas in contrast Lyle felt it was premature. I counted more than 30 punches unanswered and Lyle was visibly hurt after the initial right hand. I thought it was legitimate stoppage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZVWMO9T95I&feature=related
HMMM,Few things; The stoppage was correct,Ali was holding back waiting for thr ref. It was like the Liston anchor punch wasnt it,the first biggie?Unusual to see Later ALI opponents react like that to a single shot, could be something in that punch,as in it really did hurt Liston. Many victims of stoppages are guilty of the same thing;they think its premature because they are willing to fight to the death if necessary,so the ref should keep out.Wrong.Its ok for them to feel like that, but the ref cant just let them carry on because they want to be warriors. Its unfair on the ref;Nobodies going to commend him for HIS fighting heart. "That ref is a true warrior the way he let the fight go on"-doesnt happen does it?.He gets castigated if a fighter gets hurt for fighting too long, but the fighters a hero for the same.Thats why its often unfair when fighters moan the ref stopped them too soon.
Good stoppage... hear the trainer after protesting... "He's been up here, talking ever since"... clearly Ron needed to be beaten deaf and dumb for him to be satisfied. It would have been frustrating, though to have been in a close fight with Ali and have it stopped. I don't begrudge them their interview protests, but the ref did the right thing.
Pretty good stoppage. Lyle was covering up but not throwing anything back and his legs wobbled several times. Sad that Lyle was ahead at the time.
late by today's standards. he landed cleanly repeatedly and buckled lyle over and over. i give lyle alot of credit for taking as much as he did but he was done. he would have gotten severely hurt if he had been allowed to continue. Ali really did have very good power when he sat down on those right hands.
