M-1 Global Says Fedor’s Contract With Showtime, Zuffa Buyout Has No Effect

The UFC can establish themselves in the richer countries but its ultimately futile if those countries only have token guys to support. The UFC will never want to take the spotlight away from its home market. This is why multiple strong orgs globally is important. The UFC really doesn’t have the brick and mortar presence in many European countries and no proper tournaments in place in those regions. All it takes is just a few Broadcasters to run with a local promotion to change the landscape.

UFC is basically in the same position as Pride now, packing stadiums etc. Things change fast in MMA though. Ultimately the profit levels for promotion is chumps change compared to viewership importance. Zuffa’s PPV structure will falter against a product that’s free and popular, if its popular then the Broadcasters will run and invest big money on it. Broadcasters are really the big bosses who puts money in pockets, not how many people attends the fight in stadiums.

M1-Global has a great opportunity to do this, especially when they already have a championship tourney in place and several reality shows as well that Showtime can utilise.

Look at the history of the sport, if you disagree then you obviosuly havent been paying attention to how the sport has developed and how rapidly promotions seemed to rise and fall.

All the ingredients are there for M1, all they need now is time, time for their fighters to mature and establish, and time for their audiences especially in America to develop. Showtime enables them this (without the help of Strikeforce).

UFC established in Germany? As far as I saw they ran one show which didnt sell out and then ran a 2nd show at a smaller arena which dodnt do that well either.

They are trying, but are having some roadblocks and opposition groups against MMA in the country, so I think they are done in Germany for all of 2011. Prob still feeling bad about ww2.

 

Some major broadcasters and bodies in europe are also against using the cage, so theres some more roadblocks.

its not impossible to think that M-1 could grow into a position to compete with the ufc down the road. However their is no evidence to suggest that that will happen.

The UFC will lose talent as they always have these fighters have to go somewhere, but to M-1 perhaps some might but for fighters to gravitate to any org they have to pay on par with the UFC then the org has to generate enough money to justify that pay. A org simply gobbles up a lot of good fighters too quickly it only insures its own demise kind of like getting a mortgage you cant afford, its great for a little while but then your debts pile up.

It will be a while before another org is in the position Strikeforce was just 1 week ago. To be a threat to the UFC is a feat other MMA orgs will not be able accomplish probably for a few years if ever.

Owners of Strikeforce really let us MMA fans down.
