    Folks,

Thanks to Philly Fan up in Maryland, I finally obtained a copy of the '81 WBA 175 pound title fight between Michael Spinks and Eddie M. Muhammad from Las Vegas... A good, tactical fight all the way...

Michael Spinks at 16-0 was still green in 1981, but determined to take the title away from Eddie M. Muhammad. You see, E.M. Muhammad had just lost a unanimous decision in the spring to Renaldo Snipes while weighing a porky 201 pounds, then melting back down to 175 for his defense against Michael Spinks in July 1981...

E.M. Muhammad looked good for 7 rds, but by round 8 his right eye was closing rapidly and he was wearing out... Michael Spinks really took control of the bout in round 8 and even dropped E.M. Muhammad like a sack of taters in round 12, but Muhammad got up to finish the fight while dropping the decision... Michael Spinks won fair and square...

In my book, E.M. Muhammad is a very good fighter / boxer, but he falls just short of true greatness... I'm not sure that the IBHOF will ever come calling to his house... Maybe?

Meanwhile, Michael Spinks is a proven top-5 ATG light-heavy champion and a decent former heavyweight champion... He is a "Haller" all the way...

    Q:

Anyone have leads to tapes or disc copies of "Snipes-Muhammad" or "Coetzee-Thomas?" I'm also looking for "Snipes-Coetzee" and "Tillis-Shavers."

    Note:

I taped "Spinks-Qawi" of 1983 off HBO when it occurred. I still own my master tape as well.. I recall being pumped and psyched for a full-scale war, but I had to settle for a tactical fight in which Spinks throughly out-boxed a passive Qawi over 15 rds in Atlantic City...

BUT!! I am happy that a fight built-up as "The Brawl For It All" in 1983 was on regular HBO... Here in '10, that fight would sell on PPV for 50 USA dollars......... WORD!

I just hate that youtube horse****........ I do have use for computers, but, I still know that they are evil.... I like reviewing my fights on VHS or DVD by way of my TV screen......

My 13 year old nephew is a major computer ***... He will not hit a baseball or lace up the gloves, yet he'll play "Dragonwyck" and "Grand Theft Auto" and some other war game **** on his computer 24 / 7..... He's so homo.....

BUT!! Aside from his problems, I am looking for some of them classic 80s fights on tape / DVD... I missed a few bouts back then....

I've never thought Spinks got enough credit for this win. He effectively outfought a very physically talented and skilled champion despite a huge disadvantage in experience.

I love the Spinks-Qawi fight. Michael laid out a beautiful blueprint on how to beat Qawi. he kept the range he wanted all night and Qawi never could find a way to get into this fight. Qawi was/is one of my favorites and I was cheering him on this night (Hey if the river wasn't there Camden would be part of Philly), and while I was not shocked he lost I was totally surprised at how he lost!

I felt Spinks showed much more seasoning in 1983 than he did when he first won the belt from Muhammad in 1981... Spinks was getting schooled by Muhammad early on, but that was never the case in '83 against Qawi...

To this day I have never fully forgiven Eddie M. Muhammad for his 1983 failure to make weight for his highly anticipated rematch with Michael Spinks on HBO... His weigh-in of 177 1/2 pounds pissed me off.... Then he topped it off by whining like a bee-yatch that the scales were tampered with... Meanwhile, Mike Spinks weighed 174 right off the bat... WTF?

Spinks just trained and dieted better than Muhammad did........ Muhammad was once a middleweight in his early pro career, so his whine that 175 was too tuff to make seems like a cop-out....:hey

Spinks always made 175 on the first try at the weigh-in scales...... In fact, freaky as is, but Spinks was 170 for his final 1985 defense against Jim MacDonald...

And, once again, in 1983 Eddie M. Muhammad came in at 177 1/2 pounds for the ill-fated rematch with Spinks on HBO..... ARGH!:fire

I have the best of both worlds- I converted my fights and have acquired many fights (over 1000) on my external hard drive which I can access wirelessly with my PS3 (I own no games, just use it as a media extender and blu-ray) and play them on my 50" plasma downstairs... It's pretty kickass to have people over for a "fight night" and watch some classics.

See, that type of set-up I can deal with and accept.......

I admit, I have fallen in lust with my bro's digital cable box DVR player / recorder...... It's the jazz, man...... I can replay or download to video at the press of a few buttons... I LIKE IT!!

Yeah- I hear some of those new dvr's can double as a media extender, so you can plug in a usb drive or external hard drive and use it like that-
I like the digital setup better- a lot cleaner and occupies less space. I just got sick of having boxes and boxes of tapes and dvd's...

Believe it or not, but here in '10, I still use VHS tapes to a large degree........ I have 3 VHS recorders that still work fine.... However, tapes are getting harder and harder to find...... The "Dollar" or "Discount" stores still have leftovers.... I'm using them, too.....

I'm also missing from my files Spinks versus Vonzell Johnson....... Spinks KO'd his ass by hitting on the break....... I saw it on TV back in '81, but I had no VCR until 1982....
