I’m taking Tyson by mid rounds tko…Bowe could find himself trading here w the wrong guy. I’m sure they’ve sparred coming up I wonder what the resulted were? Queens v Brooklyn
I’m giving Tyson a hard fought decision win here. Bowe being durable and a lot bigger plus have a good infighting game would make it tough
I like Bowe here. Tyson obviously got schooled by Buster Douglas, another big man. But he also fell into a ‘throw two punches and clinch/rest’ pattern against others like Tucker and Bonecrusher. Bowe was better than any of those and at his best would be a handful for anyone. Plus, he was a better infighter than Tyson, who usually didn’t press the issue too much in close. And it’s not like Bowe was chinny or lacked durability. I think the best version of Riddick wears Tyson down and either takes a wide decision, pulling away late, or perhaps stops him.
Tyson, Holmes and Bowe are my main guys at heavyweight. I grew up with them at different stages of my fandom. Just an FYI. Bowe is probably the worst opponent for Iron Mike. As stated above he's the best infighter of the big heavies. However, Tyson could fight on the inside if he had to. Bowe would be open too much for counters and gets punished in return after dishing some of his own punishment. I think Tyson gets the job done in a back and forth barnburner. Bowe's chin isn't quite as good as Tyson's and it would eventually be his downfall.
I’m guessing they had to spar when they were coming up. They grew up close to each other. I heard they avoided each other like Norton and Frazier out of respect for each other but I thought that was suspect.
I am going to go against the grain here and pick Bowe. I seem to be one who rates Bowe’s chin higher than most round here. Some claim he has a suspect chin and the like. I also think Bowe’s defense is ‘adequate’. Hittable I agree. But his defense as a slugger is much better than Klits and Lewis. Certainly not to the point where I’ll be picking an early Tyson KO. I don’t necessarily buy into the narrative of Tyson having issues with taller fighters either. What I do buy into is bigger men being able to bully Tyson. I remember seeing a point in the Lewis-Tyson fight where Tyson looked like a child compared to Lewis the way he was being shoved around. Possibly a height thing, Holyfield proved much much stronger against Lewis despite being a ‘blown up cruiser’. Bowe fights 3 minutes of the round. Tyson doesn’t have stamina problems but likes a reset. With a good plan Bowe should be able to win this with his excellent jab, bullying Tyson and being much busier down the stretch. I also don’t think Bowe slugging is a bad thing at all here. A washed Holyfield slugged and mauled and Tyson only had about 2 good rounds because of it. I know some argue Tyson was past it then. But so was Holyfield! Holyfield seemed to have quicker hands and Tyson’s power wasn’t that impressive when he wasn’t countering either. Wouldn’t put stoppages or decisions for either man out of the question. Tyson’s cleaner defense and punching should score well, but Bowe being busy could make it difficult to score.
I believe both Tyson and Bowe are from Brooklyn, maybe different neighborhoods but supposedly they went to elementary school together in Brownsville. Bowe was one of the guys from that area that got his start training under George Washington. Washington also trained Breland, Briggs, Michael Bent and many others. I don't think Tyson boxed while he lived in Brooklyn and only started boxing after he was living upstate. In 1985 when Tyson was well into his pro career, Bowe was still fighting as an amateur at 178 pounds. Even though they are close in age and lived close to each other they may have never been in the ring with each other. I've never heard or read anything about them sparring each other.
hard to say, Tyson will clinch and try to avoid any inside action, I think that combined with Bowe's reach prevents too much brawling, it would be a lot of jousting where Bowe jabs and tries to land a big right and Tyson tries to get a little closer to do the same, once Tyson is in range though there could be a barrage of uppercuts and hooks, but if Bowe lands before Tyson can get into that range it's going to wear on him throughout the fight
Tyson. Inside 6 rounds. And in a way that would shock people. Styles make fights. Holyfield struggled with people that tyson desposed of easily and sometimes the other way around. Bowe gets hit way too much. Was hurt by single punches by nonpunchers and only had one special night where he looked better than a good contender. We've been down the "disecting bowes resumee" road before so i wont do it again. But i just dont see him keeping his chin out of the way of tysons fists and i dont see his chin withstanding the bombs
They were both from the same neighborhood of Brownsville in Brooklyn. Bowe was a more polished in-fighter and could give Tyson issues, but ultimately I think Bowe just gets hit too much and would get stopped.
