M1 Global: Fedor versus Jeff monson fight is the most significant fight in MMA

    The Fedor versus Jeff Monson I think is the most significant fight in MMA history, not because of the MMA fight or significant for the sport of MMA but because of the boos and cat calls that Putin (or whoever it was directed to) received after the fight. That section along is being called by some political commentators and activists as "an end of an era" and totally out of the norm. The fight was also shown live on prime time on one of the major broadcasters.

    All MMA fights to date has been of local importance, this fight leapt out of the sporting arena into the political antenna and plunked itself as a regionally significant event. ALL newsagencies around the world seems to have covered what happened.

    Putin is the leader of a criminal organization but the opposition in Russia is no better. The sparse boos are not unprecedented for any politician.

    It was amusing that someone suggested that the boos were directed at Monson leaving bloodied from the stadium.

    So what, a politician exploiting an iconic fighting figure for political gain doesn't mean the fight is more significant in the MMA world. Fedor is respected and admired by russians and eastern europeans, all the best to him. he lookd ****ing average in this fight. most fixed fight ive ever seen

    This coming from a big Fedor fan. I like the updates and dedication to Emelianenko but this is clearly propaganda talking.

    Some great article by Jeff Monson on his trip and fight in Russia. The guy is a true warrior and very respectful and appreciative. Its no wonder hes become a fan favorite in Russia.
