As part of your boxing world, which do you appreciate more: The trilogy between Erik Morales and Marco Antonio Barrera or the one between Rafael Marquez and Israel Vasquez. Which do you value the most, based on: (1) The status of the fighters involved (2) The fights themselves, and therefore the excitability factor (3) The skill level demonstrated (4) Anything else you can think of as a comparison Can you think of any better trilogy/series of bouts between two gladiators of the ring (Ali-Frazier, Gatti-Ward, Graziano-Zale, Robinson-La Motta etc) All views accepted.
I would rate mab-em higher in signifigance because both were superstars of the sport. However vasquez-marquez was actually the better trilogy as each fight actually got progressively better and two of them resulted in dramatic stoppages.
They are almost even. But MAB-EM take it by the slightest margin. If it was just based on excitement then Rafa-Izzy takes it but if its based on level of the fighters then i think MAB-EM take it. Its hard but the TKOs are a determining factor to me. All four of these fighters were on the top of the p4p lists and only one trilogy produced TKOs which to me is a little bit of a sign of being at a lower level. EM and MAB also went to war and there was no TKOs. No man was ready to fold.
Easily MAB and EM. Both ATGs and their hate for each other was clear. Their 3 fights were all classics and the first fight is up there with my favourite fights of all time.
Not to mention that Vasquez and Rafa did show great skill and determination each time out. MAB and Erik Morales are 2 of my all time favorite fighters, but their actual trilogy didn't produce the drama and bloodshed of IV-RF or even any knockdowns.
I believe there were 2 knockdowns in that series. 3 if you count MAB in the 3rd fight. I believe 12th round his glove hit the canvas but was not counted. I have not watched this fights in years. Does anyone want to confirm this?
I happen to like KOs as they seem more definitive than a close, possibly controversial decision, but that's just me. You can in no way say that Rafa and Israel are the type of fighters to fold though. Don't forget that they are also 2 of the hardest P4P punchers in the sport and not used to going 12 rds against anyone. Again not too take away from mab-em, but the 2nd fight was not much of a barn burner and the 3rd was nowhere near as great as the 1st fight.
Of course you are right to an extent; the first two fights between MAB and EM are shrouded in controversy, and we have the same in the 3rd IV-RM match-up (I had Marquez winning).
There was one bs knockdown in the 1st fight (replay showed not a valid kd) and none in any of the subsequent fights.
Believe me I am not trying to insult anyone. I know all four fighters are warriors. The only thing is that MAB-EM were both landing hard shots too but at the same time they were better defensively and i think thats one of the reasons i rate it higher. Actually i think that is the only reason. They both had better defense than Izzy and Rafa. They were not better completely I believe they were equal in everything but defense and come on they are only human and a human will fold after to much punishment. Does anyone else see these guys as the new EM-MAB?? I always thought Izzy was the EM and Rafa was the MAB.
Are you sure?? I remember in the 1st fight EM go "kd" in maybe the last round i believe. (I did not think it was a kd) In the 2nd fight wasnt EM also "kd" or at least counted as a kd? In the 3rd fight i think it was the 12th round where EM hit MAB with a shot that made his glove touch the canvas but was not counted. Help anyone? I lost all my collection of fights...
Yeah, I have them all on tape and archived on my computer. EM did go down in the last round of the 1st fight, but the replay showed that it was a slip. The replay was actually shown after the fight. The other 2 fights had some good 2 way action but no KDs. Oh, and I know that you respect both fighters and the defense was a little better in em-mab trilogy. :good However I do think that rafa's defense is as good, if not better than EM. It's just that Vasquez is such a sharp concussive puncher that anytime he catches someone clean it does a lot of damage.
