Always gave a great fight! Win or lose, you got your moneys worth from a fight involving Barrera. Not to mention the was he mastered Hamed.
Ruined his career with the odd cheap shot? Sign off. Let's all dismiss Roberto Duran for his blatant low bow of Ken Buchanan and his thumbing off the eye against Davey Moore. Marco Antonio Barrera is, to my mind, the greatest Mexican fighter since Julio Cesar Chavez. Whereas many talented fighters that come before and after him would have faded into obscurity after a devastating loss like the one he experienced in 1997 against Junior Jones, Marco only came back stronger. Once a seek and destroy, power-boxer, Barrera reinvented himself, becoming a master technician capable of winning fights off his left jab alone. He would win titles in three separate weight divisions, and treated Boxing fans to one of the most exciting and thrilling trilogies of all time against arch nemesis, Erik Morales. One of the most complete fighters of his generation who showed true character in rebounding from defeats, and silenced his critics in fights he wasn't expected to win. I have him ranked at 4 in my list of greatest fighters from 2000-2010, and I consider him to be the greatest Featherweight of the decade.
