Foster. Slightly better durability and a bigger banger in my opinion. Alex Stewart had a good punch, don't get me wrong, but there were never any reputable stories out there that he laid out a great fighter cold, like Foster was said to of done in a gym fight to Sonny Liston.

I haven't seen the Quarry/Foster fight in years, but if I'm remembering correctly he lands some hellecious leather on the teak tough Quarry before succumbing himself... He had far more success against Quarry than the likes of either Earnie Shavers or Ron Lyle, and Quarry actually had to rally to stop Foster if I'm not going senile.

Quarry ruined Mac Foster, I was at that fight in the garden & will never forget it I came to see the 6"3 1/2 215lb 24-0 24ko's Foster KO Quarry but little Jerry6" 200 took him out, I saw Quarry KO Shavers (who I saw take out Ellis in1) later in1 & bust up Ron Lyle.....

Mac Foster would have beaten Stewart IMO

Foster beats Stewart, around round five. Mac fought better comp overall, though Alex may steal a round or two. Shame Mac didn't fight Frazier in 1972, who knows.

I just looked at Stewarts record because of the idea Foster fought better comp.....I would not agree Stewart fought Tyson, Moorer, Holyfield, Foreman, Gonzales, Ferguson, Maskaev but he lost most of the time by stoppage though he banged up Foreman pretty well after climbing off the deck....so because of the fact that when Stewart lost it was usually by stoppage so I gotta favor Foster in a shoot out

Mac Foster never regained his confidence after Jerry Quarry war.
Another John Mugbai type scenario. Mac ko Stewart mid rds.

I don't feel he imploded as completely as "The Beast" did... Foster went 15 rounds with Ali years after the Quarry disaster, and was actually never stopped in a bout outside of the Quarry shootout.

If Quarry didn't have such a truly exceptional chin, Mac Foster may have made a real splash in the boxing world with a win in that bout, with some of the devastating shots he landed in that bout, and we'd be talking about him regularly to this day. Funny how things pan out sometimes.

Him and Norton were on the boxing team for the Marines. Should have matched up.

People seem to forget Stewarts limitations, brave as he was. He did not sweep through every match he had, only struggling against the very best he fought like Holyfield, Foreman and Tyson. He needed two matches with this guy to set the record absolutely straight.

Foster simply swam in much deeper waters. Even his wins over faded ex-top guys are better than any Stewart had, because Stewart never beat the best of the last generation like Foster did.
