From Setanta . com, Macca believes rivals "running scared" ) Enzo Maccarinelli believes that he is becoming a victim of his own success. The WBO cruiserweight champion is poised to defend his belt against Mohamed Azzaoui on the undercard for Joe Calzaghe's super-middleweight title unification fight with Mikkel Kessler in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on November 3. Setantasports.com understands that Azzaoui has agreed to act as a late replacement for Ezra Sellers, who was prevented from tackling Maccarinelli because the British Boxing Board of control did not deem him worthy of a title shot. Some would argue that Azzaoui is not worthy of a title shot either but needs must for Maccarinelli, who saw IBF champion Steve Cunningham, the undefeated Dane Johnny Jensen and the experienced American Rob Calloway all reject offers to fight him in Cardiff. The Welshman has been left somewhat bewildered by his rivals unwillingness to get into the ring with him, but he believes that they are all running scared after witnessing his impressive win over Wayne Braithwaite last time out. "Calloway wouldn't take up the offer, and that is disappointing because I am offering him a crack at the world title," he is quoted as saying in the South Wales Echo. "He has a good record and he has only lost to guys who are heavyweights. "But that is history now and I just think that people have seen me differently since I beat Wayne Braithwaite. "They saw a different dimension to my boxing because before that they saw me as a puncher. "Now they are aware that I can really box. I am not the finished article yet, but people realise what I am capable of. "People want stupid money just to fight me now." However, Maccarinelli still believes that the mega fights are just around the corner and he is very open to the idea of fighting the loud-mouthed American, Dernell Ding-A-Ling Man Wilson. "I am looking for a possible unification fight, probably with Steve Cunningham," he explained. "Then there is either Mormeck or Haye in the pipeline, so there are some good fights around down the line. "As for the Ding-A-Ling Man, I do rate him and he is strong and dangerous. But then again, there are plenty of those kind of boxers out there."
There's been a bit of a build up between Enzo and Wilson now... could be an explosive fight if it ever happens!!
This is utter crap and a classic example of when the word undefeated is totally meaningless. Maccarineli should be ashamed of himself.
Why not fight Herbie Hide? He's in there and that could be a massive fight in the UK... oh yeah, cos he might lose! Sorry for you Ding man, can you get any fights that'll push you up the rankings?
Well he is definitely better than Sellers. Like PluginBabies I saw his fight against Saenz, he is rather slick. His best win was 5 fights ago against 14-2-1 Aloryi Mensah, who has a TKO 4 win over Sebastiaan Rothmann in South Africa. Boxrec has Azzaoui at #16. So he is a fringe top 20 guy, not bad really but from a champ like Enzo who absolutely crushed a top 10 ex-champ in his last fight, we should expect MUCH more. I hope a Ding vs Enzo fight happens soon, though Darnell, you should be looking elsewhere at the moment.
It's a disgrace. I don't even acknowledge Maccarinelli as a legitimate champion. He was handed the title cuz Nelson had to retire with injuries, barely beat domestic level Hobbo, somehow got a fight with Bobby Gunn (???) and then beat up on the corpse of Wayne Braithewaite. NOW THIS!!! As much as I was against Sellers getting the fight he at least had a puncher's chance. This guy is a ranked fighter with NO chance and it's horrible. Maccarinelli is a bum and for everyone blaming Frank Warren u have to also take into account that Enzo has say in who he fights. He's not overly eager to fight anybody with a pulse. Ding, u don't even need this guy. He's a bum and he's never gonna leave his little protective coccoon.
Ugh. It seems as though you're gonna have to look for a fight against the Mormeck/Haye winner, Ding. In truth, that type of fight might be better in the long run, since both of those guys are more credible than Macca, in my opinion...and because it's the type of fight that would almost certainly be shown on either HBO or Showtime (probably the latter). Still, it's a pretty blatant duck by Macca and Warren.
Ding does not deserve the Haye Mormeck winner at this point. No way. And after Haye wins, he's never fighting at cruiser ever again, do some research man.
There is an Azzaoui fight on youtube if you're interested. I watched a couple of months ago, and the guy really is a pretty good boxer, although doesn't look he packs much punch. http://youtube.com/watch?v=1RVSHbDkQsY
You're absolutely and deservedly entitled to that response!!:good Word to Enzo maccaranelli?? Frank Warren is a pathetic scumbag MISHANDLING you're career.:yep
Give me a break? Frank Warren did it again? Ding is twice the fighter Azzaoui is. Ding was too dangerous so they decided to take on nothing more than a decent cruiserweight? Mac isn't a real champion...
We all like Ding, but c'mon, he needs another win before he can just call out champions and expect them to automatically offer him a shot. Ding is ranked #7 WBO. Beat any of those other top 15 guys, then you get a shot. Sure, this is a weaker opponent, but Maccarinelli is not a bum, he's a legit world champion fighter. The win over Braithwaite was a good one. I'd like to see him beat Azzouri, then push for a uni fight vs. either Mormeck/Haye or Cunningham. Any of those combos are very good fights.
