Agreed. The straight right that caught him flush in the face sounded like a cannon going off. A couple of Haye's body shots did as well.
All the bullshitting in the world will not change the fact that not only did he lost to the far superior boxer. Enzo was in a completely different league to his opponent and straight away he felt Haye's shots land he knew he had lost. The first proper exchange of the fight he ends up on his arse.
It was sad to watch, I was gutted for Maccarinelli. He never looked settled and like everyone has said, he looked scared of getting hit. I think that if he had been able to go in there and jab decisively he might have lasted longer, which in turn would have given him confidence, and maybe allow him to get in some power shots of his own. It wouldn't have changed the result but it would have drawn things out. Perhaps then he could have walked away saying "I just got caught". As it was, he was hunted down and assassinated. I was rooting for Enzo even though I knew the fight was in David's favour. I truly didn't see it being over so quickly though. All credit to Haye.
It was Hatton - Mayweather syndrome, I think. May have looked like a genuine wobble on first viewing, but in retrospect it was clearly more down to the fighter moving backwards just as the punch grazed him.
Yes, I did rewatch that bit to be sure (because I knew for certain that that would be the reed Warren would cling to, the "he had him hurt in the first round" one). Enzo lands a jab, Haye misses with a looping right, then a second later suddenly stumbles. Unless that was a delayed reaction, from little more than a jab that didn't even seem to fully land, it was a genuine stumble. So I call bollocks on any "hurt in the first round" moonshine if Warren starts pedalling it.
I agree, a definite stumble. A similar Haye left hand soon after which connected with much more force had Rawling saying about Macca "think he blocked that one" :-( .
Whats wrong with saying that, he did cut Haye and It wasn't that one sided until Haye knocked him out.
I don't recall seeing the punch that caused the cut (or whether it was in fact a punch), it certainly wasn't the punch after which Haye stumbled. It didn't have time to be that one sided. Nothing really happened in the first and once Haye started stepping it up it was all over. To say that the fight wasn't one sided suggests that the fighters were exchanging and that there was to and fro. This wasn't the case, Haye was feeling Enzo out and Enzo looked nervous, it just happened that not much was thrown in the first round.
i knew the term "i just got caught" would emerge from enzo or warren.also i don't seem to remember enzo's camp calling haye a "great champion" before the fight.
He didn't slip that many, he more moved back with his hands low and Enzo definately cut him with a jab.
Haye said he thought he had to step It up once cut though. It was pretty even until Enzo was sparked.
..again, only because nothing had happened and Haye was feeling him out. In your own words, once cut, Haye decided to step it up and sparked Enzo in the next minute. Max, following the fight if they met 10 times (not having accumulated damage from previous meetings) how many do you think Enzo would win? Do you still think Enzo would win the majority?
