Some people are talking like Bones never even hurt and dropped Machida standing before he got the choke. lol
Exactly what I was thinking when I saw this thread. It wasn't like Machida was hyped for no reason on his way to becoming champion. Who the **** is going to implement that game plan better than Machida?
In reality, Jones just showed he can adapt and his chin has some worth. When he got caught with the left hand he was off balance but took the shot.
I know. This was Lyoto ****ing Machida. In his prime, in great shape and highly motivated. He didn't make it out of the second round. Machida would be no.1 @ 205 in my opinion if Jones wasn't around, Machida did everything right and still lost. So I'm guessing the blueprint is wait for a better striker than Machida than can wrestle that has a 100" reach, an iron chin and slick subs to come along and then do what Machida did, only better.....hmm, not much of a help to Rashad, Hendo and Davies is it?
:rofl Ouch. Terrible thread. Genuinely can't think of two fighters more different from each other in their approach to striking than Machida and Henderson. You have totally disregarded the fact that Machida is a lightning-fast counterstriker who uses bodykicks, and that Henderson... isn't any of those things. At all.
Agree with this 100%. Machida is the best in the world at doing the things that troubled Jones. If he can't win a fight doing this, no-one else can.
A chance to maybe get one or two of his punches to pass within a foot or so of Jones' whiskers, that is. :hat
It's funny all these people saying that Jones showed vulnerability, showed that he doesn't like being pressured etc. In reality, Jones lost one round. Maybe. A round in which nothing much happened because Machida was wary about getting too close too soon, and Jones was trying to figure out a fighting style the likes of which he has never faced before, employed by a highly dangerous and motivated guy. Then after one quiet and mostly even round, Jones took Lyoto down with his usual ease, brutally ****ed him over with nasty elbows as he always does, gave him a forehead vagina, then stood up and made Machida fall asleep on his feet. :hat
:huh 2nd round sub on a guy never before subbed and only KOed once...seems he dealt with it just fine not to mention Hendo's power comes from people walking into his h-bomb...if you watch he always walks back angling to his right to get people to walk into his power...jj doesn't have to do that with his reach
This. He got hit but never looked hurt. Machida had some sucess as he leaps in and out again. As soon as he did come forward it ended in a clinch. If you are in a clinch with Jones you are ****ed one way or another. Imagine how much work machida will have done reguarding clinching and defending TD's in the build up to this fight. Bones is one of those rare fighters where the opponant knows exactly what he is going to do but can do nothing to stop it.
Jon Jones is still very green. Wait til he gets better in 3 or 4 years. Give Lyoto credit, I've never seen him better. He had the gameplan and was lightning quick.
