to beat jones you need to actually fight the man. not hang off and look for openings that arent there till he overawes you and gets his roll on.
you cant get too cute with him you just need go straight at him and hit whatever is available. body, shoulders, knees to the inside thigh, leg kicks, whatever you can hit.

It doesn't matter though, Jon Jones has proven that he can hang with top-top strikers, he is >> for me unless its proven otherwise.

The turning point of the fight for me was the exchange in Rnd 2 where Jones kept coming after and Machida looked a bit stunned. I don't know how much more proof people need at this point.

 

I watched it again and actually think this was the best machida I have seen. He did everything right. His movement was on another level, his hands were quick and accurate and he even stuffed a TD/trip just before Jones got him down. But then....

The TD Jones got was undefendable. He just pulled Machidas legs away and leapt up exploding all his weight through machidas upper body. How do you train to defend moves like that? Jones arms are so long i do not see how you can stop him getting singles and doubles when clinching and then he just explodes. Scary stuff.

When Jones was on top he looked, again, like an adult fighting a child. He is the most dominant top position fighter i have ever seen. Guys on the bottom stay on the bottom when Jones is on top. Scary stuff.

Jones has unbelievable GnP: 1 elbow = 1 severe gash. JJ deffo has the most dangerous and vicious elbows in all MMA. More scary stuff.

Jones was standing southpaw when he beat Machida to the punch that was the beginning of the end. Thsi is quite amazing. Lots of fighters switch stances but very few land any telling blows. It is usually a tactic employed to mess with the other guys rythm that they quickly switch back and try to land proper. Jones actually beat the best striker at 205 to the punch when not in his natural stance. Super talented. Again, scary stuff.

The finish was clinical. Jones is so strong in the upper body and I think his forearms are quite thin which means he could really sink it into Machihdas throat. He looked huge choking Machida out, like fighters from different weight classes. Jones doesn't need to have a guys back or be in a dominant position to pull of fight ending subs. He can do it just fine from a clinch.

I tried to look at the fight and pinpoint the areas fighters will have to coompete with Jones on to even get remotely close to winning. I can't see it happening anytime soon. The only way Jones can lose against any of the current LHW is a Serra/GSP kind of thing, which of course can happen to anyone, but looks unlikely as even when Jones got tagged he was straight back to a controlled gameplan within seconds. He really does look to be the complete fighter and improving rapidly.

 

There are only two scenarios where I could see "Bones" lose. Neither one emanates from his division. First, if the fight of the century between Jones and Anderson Silva is made. Now Silva is on the shelf for several months healing from an injury. At 37, his experience will start to deteriorate into old age so lets hope the fight happens in less than one year's time. The second would be if he decides to move to heavyweight where the hulking, super-athletic, terrifyingly powerful Junior Dos Santos holds court.

 

Even with Juniors' TDD, it's entirely within the realm of possibility that Jones could avoid the first strike, throw him down with authority and then **** him up from top position like he does to everyone. It's a very short list of guys at HW who I back to have a better shot at dethroning JDS than Bones does.

They could eventually meet in the octagon in a few years. Both are young men and Jones will undoubtably move up to the heavyweight division in the years to come. It will be interesting to see how Jones' otherworldly physical gifts and constantly improving skill matches up with the big dogs in the heavyweight division. But this is still a few years away.

I don't know about that, Jones to me, looks huge, he made Machida look kinda small, as too how he manhandled Rampage and Shogun. These are legit Light heavyweights and he throws them around for fun. He looks a weight class above when you see him in there. Perhaps he should be fighting the HWs? These are legit fighters who he has been destroying, and I think it's simply due to his size as a major factor instead of technique. Don't misunderstand me, he has great technique, cardio etc but his size is giving him a huge advantage in the clinch game.

I think he needs to move up. He's cleaned out the division and he's too damn big for them. What else can he do? No one left to fight at 205. In my opinion no LHW will ever beat Jon Jones. This was a damn good version of Machida and you won't find many fighters who are as good as him technically.

 

Jones makes weight easily and has never shown any signs being drained in his appearance or his performances in the cage. That means he's a legit LHW. He's only been champion nine and a half months, and he and his camp say that he won't be ready to move to HW for at least a few years. There are still guys out there like Rashad and Hendo for him to fight, and we have absolutely no idea who's going surface as a threat in the division in the next couple of years.

Rachad and Hendo? prime example about beating up on smaller guys, Rachad is not a big LHW and Hendo can fight at middleweight. As good as they are, they will just be thrown around like they are nothing. Machida messed up Rachad pretty bad in their fight. I know styles make fights but Jon Jones beats Hendo and Rachad pretty comfortably.

I dunno what it is, he's a bit of a freak of nature. It's not good enough for the UFC to just let him constantly beat up on new comers either. People want good match ups and exciting fights. Not one sided beat downs. From a business point of view, Dana will need to do something with Jones, cos they are running out of contenders.
