ufc 84 was just on the tv which had machida vs ortiz on the card. chuck was in the audience and i wondered how he would of went against lyoto? i'm surprized they didn't fight eachother actually. Sokoudjou also fought on that night. he looked an exciting fighter, however he obviously didn't last long in the ufc. was he one of those fighters that promised a lot but simply didn't deliver?
Sokoudjou was very promising after knocking out Arona and Lil Nog back to back. Since then, he has usually looked good for the first few opening minutes before gassing or seemingly just giving up. Very inconsistant. Don't know how dedicated he is. He is just a journeyman at this point. By the time Machida was in the UFC, Chuck's career was already going downhill with losses to Rampage and Jardine. Machida would have likely capitalized on Chuck becoming over agressive, and possibly knocked him out. Prime Chuck may have been a different story. He was far more patient. That fight may have actually be pretty boring, with both guys waiting to counter the other.
For a second I thought that another injury had struck and that this fight had been announced as a late-notice replacement for Jones-Belfort or some ****. :hat
He wouldn't have been patient for long, considering the fact that Machida would look to pile up points with leg kicks until Chuck had to start throwing bones at him. Most likely, there's little pockets of action, with Machida playing defense all night long, forcing Chuck to create the offensive interactions and avoiding any real damage. Chuck wins this fight by being a wrestler first and keeping Machida up against the cage to get his work in. If it stays at stand up, Machida pulls a close, but comfortable decision.
Sad thing about chuck is people remember him for his last 3-4 fights when his chin completely failed him. In the day his whiskers were pretty decent..... punch resistence as we get older is a *****. I hope the **** don't get dementia from 50 onwards
