I thought it was rounds 1 and 3 for Machida. Rampage did nothing in the first and at least Machida landed leg kicks and countered pretty much everything Rampage did.
I agree completely. In that first round, Machida landed plenty of low kicks as well as a liver kick and a knee to the body. He did more damage and was even about to take Rampage down right at the end of the round. Machida controlled the third round almost completely and then began to dominate Rampage by the end of it. Lyoto deserved the win. At least there will be a rematch.
I'm upset about Machida's loss as well - but to be fair the judges made the decision. The UFC had nothing to do with it. In a way it is a win win situation. Rampage gets the official win while Machida gets the street credit for being robbed. We get to see both men continue fighting in the UFC.
how was he robbed?rampage won the first round, he showed octagon control and was the aggressor the wholr fight, all machida did the whole first round is run, and in they would swing he wouls clinch. Second round same thing but rampage got a takedown and landed good shots. Third round was clearly machidas rocked him, and got a takedown. Rampage 2-1.And at what point did machida almost choke rampage?and the armbar machida let go cause he knew he was gonna get dumped on his head. Rampage 2-1.
This being a boxing forum I'd have thought we'd have moved past "the judges came from the AC so they must be entirely impartial" line that most MMA fans buy. Compair this fight to Machida/Shogun 1 and I think it shows you pretty clearly that popularity and potential marketibility do clearly have an impact on judging. Back in 2009 Machida was the goldenboy of the division, the guy the UFC hoped to promote at the top for along time to come. In that situation Shogun outlanding him with leg kicks and clinching him agenst the fence was not enough to win him rounds even though he was landing MUCH more signifcant strikes in the clinch(knees with a big wind up compair to foot stomps and tiny little leg/body punchs with nothing behidn them). Fast forward to last weekend though and Machida is no longer the golden boy, he's lost to Shogun and nobody really wants to see a third fight while he's up agenst a more popular american. Suddenly its Machida's leg kicks that don't mean anything unlike say the ultra popular Forrest's in 2008 which won him the first round from 2 judges agenst Rampage dispite being knocked down. Jacksons clinching agenst the cage on the other hand suddenly becomes a much bigger factor even with the afforementioned lack of decent strikes.
I had Machida winning, but thought it was very close, Rampage did alot better than I expected. BTW, at which point was Machida close to subbing him? Where was this choke? As for the armbar, Machida was closing to ggetting put through the mat than Rampage was to getting subbed IMO.
I think Rampage won. I think either a rampage SD or even a draw would have been about right but I don't think LM did enough over the three rounds to win. It was a **** fight and hard to score, I don't think the word 'robbery' should be used at all as neither man did much to be proud of IMO.
He needs to engage more. Had he engaged more in the first 2 rounds he could have been stopped. On occassions he did engage clinches or kicks he got taken down and nearly got slammed. He had to know he was taking a big risk doing so little in the first 2. The fight wasn't great and an immediate rematch is needed because there needs to be a clearer victor.
Machida wasn't robbed.. fights are scored by round... Rampage easily won the first two rounds and Machida won the 3rd... that's 2 rounds to 1. If we saw this fight on the street we'd say Machida won the fight overall.. but that's not how fights are scored. They're scored round to round.
Are you nuts? machida clearly won the first round, he controlled the fight with 7 lead kicks to the inside leg a kick to the side several punches escaped tied him up. If you think that tthe first round was too close to call, you should be banned from eatching any sports.
May be a silly point, but does anyone think the face the Machida pulled when he was backtracking may had influenced the judges? I mean Rampage clipped him 1 or twice but nothing clean, yet Machida had a slightly panicked look on his face each time he was backing away and Page followed him swingin. Perhaps the Judges thought the shots caught him a little more solidly because of this
Indeed, I was pulling for Rampage to live up to the Pride theme, chase Lyoto down and beat the crap out of him but it just didnt happen. Instead he spent the first half the round standing infront of him getting kicked in the leg. In the second half Rampage came forward with 3 flurries but missed pretty much everything, pressed Machida up agenst the fence for a short time and was pressed up agenst it once himself. The only signifcant action in that round took place at range and Machida outlanded Jackeson 10 shots to 3 while clearly controling the distance to his favour. It was hardly the most action packed round but it was pretty dam clear that Machida got the best of it. The second round was a pick em and really could have gone either way while the third was obviously Machida's.
