Macklin, Cleverly & Bellew - found out?

Macklin/Bellew aren't very good, Cleverly had a bad day at the office.

 

baased on 2nite, maCKLIN AND BELLEW FOUND OUT, bad day for clev

 

I agree with what the other lads said. Macklin and Bellew are probably at their level, Cleverly could well have just been an off night.

Time will tell I guess....

 

I was shocked at Clev, i don't think he's made of the right stuff, he'll collapse mentally once he's put in with a world class operator, he was on the verge of cracking tonight, very very worrying indeed, his corner tore a strip of of him & he came out banging, but that moment of mental weakness he showed when the going got tough was enough to convince me that he's an on-top fighter whose going to crack mentally & crack early once a top operator gets the jump on him.

 

why in your oppinion was clev not found out
why give him a pass and not the other two

 

I can't comment on the specifics of these fights but I whatever happened I wouldn't get down on Clev too much based on this. He had a late change against a better opponent, pretty much a nightmare opponent to get as a replacement. All Cleverly's performances have been excellent up until this so he's allowed an off night IMO particularly bearing in mind what I just said. Perhaps its exposed a few weaknesses in his armoury against awkward boxers and counterpunchers that he'll want to work on.

Macklin I've said many a time is not a world class fighter and was badly overrated. That Asikainen win created an explosion of optimism around him but as I've said a million times, I'm fed up of actually saying this, Asi has a suspect chin and was only ever Euro class himself. Basically everything Macklin does is 'average'. He doesn't excel at anything in a boxing ring.

u can see from clev opponent that he has a style hard to look good against. i dont like the way bellew complains to the ref so much. not keen on macklin at all

 

Cleverly looked unmotivated against a tricky guy, if tonight showed anything its that he should take his time moving on to world level but I think he is good enough to win a world title eventually

macklin i think gets hit way too much and against the likes of martinez, pavlik, sturm williams etc he would get busted up and stopped on his feet.his stamina was failing him which isnt a good sign

bellew needs a style, he needs to throw 30 jabs around to keep him disciplined. he loads up with every attack but has real power. maybe a move up to cruiser would suit him better

 

Out the three i would worry for Macklin more, his work rate wasnt the best and obviously a step up to world level looks well off. Maybe looked past this opponent a little?

The worrying part for Cleverly was his temperment during the middle rounds were he did seem to sulk again a step up in class and you wont get off so lightly. In his defence the guy he fought was very evasive and would be frustrating for any fighter i would imagine, a win that can be worked on and a good learning curve.

Bellew amazed me recovering from those knockdowns as quick as he did, the 2nd one seemed like a KO but fair play. The stoppage was obviously pre-mature but think he was on the front foot and on way to victory. Moving up in weight seems the way forward If he can keep his power moving up then continue to learn he will go far.

All 3 have learnt alot today and i would NOT write them off just yet

macklin i did rate but now im not sure, he looked rubbish. Constantly backing off walking backwards through the whole fight, every time he had varon on the ropes he would just step away and let him off and when macklin got hit with a combo he just stood there and let himself get hit with more combos. Three very poor things he did tonite that suggest hes not going anywhere. But he may well have been looking past this and lost his hunger at this level. So lets just see.

Cleverly though i rate very highly, still do. Late opponent with awfull style to fight against and to watch. Good for him though if he learns from this and he did 12 rounds to which is good. He needs to tighten up his defense his hands are all over the place when he throws and i would like to see him get in and out better too. I have felt he has been over rating his own power and hopefully he will see this and start to work on a few things. Dont give up on him he is a real talent.

Styles make fights.

The guy Cleverly fought was not a good opponent to bring in at a few days notice. Decent record and ranking, and very tricky to fight against. Certainly not somebody you want to fight with a few days prep time.

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here, that he didn't have a training camp trying to fight that style.
