Who, in your opinion, was the top dog out of this lot? Who would have took the most losses & how do you see some of the fights panning out? I see Macklin sparking Barker, getting stopped by Murray in a war & beating Lee. I think Murray was the toughest overall and had the most heart. He wasn’t the most skilled, but he was the hungriest. Lee/Murray & Lee/Barker are very interesting fights. Lee’s power was devastating when he connected properly. I don’t think Barker goes through this gauntlet without getting stopped a few times. Too much pressure from some of this lot for him unfortunately. It’s a shame that we never got to see some of these fights happen. Could have made for some domestic classics.
Murray, Lee, Macklin, Barker for me. Bit of a toss up between Murray/Lee in fairness. I think Barker gets beaten by all 3
When Barker wasnt carrying injuries he was the best of the bunch in my opinion. A terrific boxer, terrific jab and boxing IQ. Real shame fights were not made though.
Think it would of been a toss up between Murray and Lee to be honest. Still remember the gloves are off thing when they were all sat together and I remember thinking Murray came over the most confident
I always remember thinking macklin would have beat Murray if they fought.. Maybe I'm just underating him though Lee macklin Murray barker
Such a shame Murray didn’t win a title & that these lads didn’t fight each other. I think he was a lot more skilled than he gets credit for, however, he didn’t have the pop to wobble or KO a top opponent and he didn’t let his hands go enough to secure the points win (at the top level). I would put Macklin & Barker on a similar level but Lee was ahead of them all though imo.
Great thread. Often commented on this issue myself. For me Macklin at his best, when fit clean living and motivated was the best of he bunch. Murray was physically the biggest and most durable and would beat a sub_peak Macklin no doubt. Lee was very overrated. Barker was the best "boxer' but was physically fragile. Peak Macklin was well over Lee and Barker and would nick it on points v Murray. For all his shortcomings Macklin at his best was a real handful, like in the fights against Sturm and Sergio. Macklin > Murray >Lee > Barker. ( Lee and Barker were very overrated).......
Against sergio Murray snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. He couldn't trust his engine, so he didn't let his hands go at the critical time.....
I still thought he won it, bud, but he left it too close and like you say he didn’t let his hands go when he needed to.
