He has nothing left to prove but he will never win a world title which is what he seems to think he is capable of. He has really struggled in his last few fights and at times tonight it looked like he was really in trouble taking a knee for as long as he did turned the crowd against him especially since the second one was just a good body shot.i think he boiled himself down to light middle thinking he would be the bigger stronger man but it backfired. Like him but he should hang up the gloves..perhaps a tv punditry role with sky beckons?

I like Macklin but he was and always will be imo a step behind the champions past and present at any weight hes fought at.

Hes a good honest pro, who makes a good commentator.

He'll get one more big fight, lose and then retire.

He's too easy to hit and he needs to retire with his health intact

He is on slide, don't think he will win a world title but a fight against either Brian Rose or Liam Smith would be quality. Though his company manage Smith but for a world title fight both would properly do it.

Yeah I like Macklin but he really milked those low blows, so much so it looked like he was desperate for the breather. Even when replacing his gum shield he took his time about it

I thought the same. I think he thought he would just blast him out of there he said afterwards that he was trying new things but realistically the level he has fought at he should be winning a fight like this. he looked like a journeyman at times..taking a knee for 5 minutes and whinging about a clash of heads.he will not beat smith if that is the fight he after even the featherfisted brian rose would probably beat him at this point

His stamina has always been poor.

He reminds me of Groves. He can box, but he wants to bomb everyone out of there.

His last fight confirmed for me that he was done. He got savagely stopped in that one.

All the wars and the chaining of weight has taken it's toll, IMO.

He's missed the chance to cement himself as the best in the country (and make sone top coin) by facing Murray, Barker and Lee. But he must have made VERY GOOD money against the likes of Sturm, Martinez and Golovkin.

He should fight Brian Rose next or Carson Jones.

Wonder I'd that nationalist ***** lencore will come in here and defend him? Loved Macklin more than Lee yet Macklin isn't even mildly Irish.

Yeah as much as I like Macklin and would like nothing more than to see him win a world title, it just isn't going to happen. I thought he was okay tonight but he should have been stunning against that level of opposition.

He beats Rose imo, but he is deffo on the slide.
As a poster above said he milked the low blows.
Wish him well but he will get hurt at world level now

Good solid fighter Macklin, just never managed to get the W in a world title fight... on home soil he'd have got the nod over Sturm.

He's gave us some good fights over the years but in doing so he's had some hard nights, he's taken a lot of shots. I think he's on the slide now, especially after watching him last night (taking nothing away from Welbourne).
