Macklin needs to retire?

People are writing him off prematurely IMO. Welborn fought out of his skin. Also mm was adjusting to a new weight and a new more defensive style. All in all there as a lot to like from Macklin last night. People are over reacting IMO.

Carson Jones would be a good fight for him but I actually think Jones would stop him.

Eddie probably wants Macklin as Brook's first 154 opponent later next year.

The problem is if he has world title ambition he sud b walking thru the likes of welborn whos an lost twice at domestic level and best wins r at area level. Welborn not so long ago was fighting at welterweight so his a small light middleweight

 

How Macklin, who is no idiot, hasn't had a fight with Lee is beyond me.

That's the biggest payday out there for him.

 

Couple of points - Welborn wasnt small last night - if anything he was at least as big as MM. Also he fought far above himself, incredible punch output, workrate, fitness, chin etc. Crucialy he totally defended himself against Macklins honey punch, the left hook to the body. That single factor was key to his performance. The few times MM did land the left hook to the body, Welborn wilted visibly, but he shut that punch down almost 100percent.

Welborn last night was a tough nights work for anyone.

You may be right BB - I respect your opinion. But Andy Lee performed a lot worse in several recent fights before getting abreakthrough to win a 'world title'.

With matchroom behind him and being a name in USA taking and with mayweather likely to vacate the belt he's actually in a decent position to get a title shot. He doesn't deserve it, but if he may as well go for it before retirement.
