Vince is a ****ing liability. His son would be a better fighter without him. Its a bad sign when Dean Powell is the one talking sense in a corner. As for Macklins cmments, I think people are blowing it out of all proportion
Then you give us your take on it,Joe has done well by him and hes been dropped like a sack by the looks of it, remember Joe and every other full time coach in the UK are trying to make a living as well and a boxer is allowed to just get up and go very very one sided if you ask me, The boxer, manager and promoters get paid and a coach can be left in the lurch, this needs addressed by the BBBC
Fair enough, that is your individual choice. Similarly, Billy Schwer's old man was Irish, even boxed for Ireland before moving to England. Billy Schwer made no bones about him being English. Macklin has a similar Irish background, but he too has the right to be respected as an Irishman as it is his expressed wish. Individual choice.:good
Macklin is the one taking the punches and it is his right to take a new trainer. I thought Gallagher did a great job for Macklin for the Sturm fight and he proved he is a top coach. But, look at Murray v Rios, he got battered, no lateral movement, he was the typical John Murray, what was the game plan? Macklin needs a good game plan and a bit more technically, so it is his right to move if he thinks he will get more from McGirt.
True, but just using it as an example. Two sides to every story, trying to bring a bit of balance. I can understand Macklin's decision. Steve Collins moved around a lot of trainers too and it didnt do his career any harm. Collins even said on 'Time of our lives' that it was the best thing he did, he gained lots of knowledge from the best trainers at that time. Horses for courses.
I really don't think Macklin intended these comments as criticism, he's a straight talker and he was just explaining his actions. Words sometimes look different in print than face to face, and come across wrong.
Does seem a bit of a **** thing to say after he trained him so well for the Sturm fight.I think trainers have probably come to expect this sort of thing from Macklin though. He changes trainers a lot,I dont this change will harm or increase his chances.
Truro I've been saying this for ages. Plus another thing that needs to be addressed. The trainer is with the fighter everyday for weeks spending hours with them. Then on fight night can be away for 3 days and everything that goes into the fight night. A manager can make 1 phone call The trainer gets 10% the manager 25% crazy!!!!!
And as for Macklin "Joe is a good conditioner but I think the level I'm fighting at now, for boxing knowledge and from a technical and tactical point of view, he's probably not on that level yet " Has he forgotton the Sturm fight, the tactics were spot on and he should now be a world champion. A lesson in life, you should never burn your bridges, coz 1 day you may need that person / company, whatever, again.
It could have been worded far better by Macklin, however im inclined to agree if im honest, Gallagher trained fighters tend to do well until they reach the upper echolens of Domestic / European level where thay are often found out for a lack of defence and movement. I dont really hold it against Macklin for trying to add more to his game.
