I dunno about hammer him. He would outpace him and win through his average combos and swarming. Macklin does leave himself open a lot, though. It's a different style matchup.
It'd be a war but I'm not sure if many middleweights could out-brawl/pressure Chavez at middleweight, I think his assets of his good chin, size, and body punches coupled with Macklin's questionable stamina and tendancy to get hit a little much mean I'd be (unfortunately, I'm Irish!) predicting a Chavez KO/TKO in the late rounds when Macklin ahead on cards. I think Macklin's style would suit Chavez, although Macklin is probably a little more accomplished all-round, I think Martinez showed the perfect way to fight Chavez and not sure Macklin could replicate that, esp in the late rounds.
I think Geale and Macklin would both have a lot of trouble with Chavez. My big worry is whether either of them has enough power to get Chavez's respect.
Macklin, Pirog, Qullin, HNN, Barker, and maybe Murray could all beat him... hell even Lee in a rematch would stand a chance with Steward cooking up some different tactics. He's just so ****ing limited. If you don't let him close enough to pound your body and can stay clear of his sloppy rights to the head, you're OK. I've been saying ever since the Latin Fury days that he didn't have all the tools to put together and be elite. I've been saying since he went life and death with Sebastian ****ing Zbik (who's HORRIBLE) that his "improvements" under Roach were smoke and mirrors. Yeah, he'd become a better fighter than in his unfocused youth, but still didn't have the goods to be elite and never will.
Well Macklin was actually doing a better job against Martinez bar the championship rounds so who knows, However I dont think Macklin has the strength in him to stop Chavez when Martinez couldnt. Chavez could KO Macklin late on also if he's not careful, this fight could go either way. only 3 possible endings : Mathew Macklin Wins via decision Julio Cesar Chavez wins via stoppage Julio Cesar Chavez gets a controversial decision Hopefully middleweight has some exciting fights for us in the new year Sergio Martinez Julio Cesar Chavez Jr Mathew Macklin Martin Murray Daniel Geale Darren Barker Gzergorz Proksa Gennady Golovkin Dmitry Pirog Peter Quillin Hassan N'dam Andy Lee Middleweight looks to be one of the best divisions in boxing right now! (next to supermiddle of course)
No. Im Irish, and can be blinded by patriotism as much as anybody but even i can see Chavez runs right through Macklin
Hmm...not sure. Not the greatest style match up for Macklin. I can't see Macklin hurting Chavez, but the other way around, there is a chance that Chavez could hurt Macklin IMO. Chavez's size would be a factor in this bout, Martinez just didn't let it last night. However, Macklin is better than Chavez, he has more of everything really.
