This is from an article at the biggening of this year Speaking on Sunday, Booth said: "If Frank still wants to do it as the one-fight deal with no strings attached, then it is on. "We have in writing a faxed offer for a one-fight deal which we accepted. "However, Frank later withdrew that offer and proposed a number of options which were totally unacceptable. "We have agreed the money and everything else, and we made no last-minute changes to our demands." i remember reading those options inlcuded Haye would have four fights including a WBO title defence or a move to heavyweight against Matt Skelton, Audley Harrison Danny Williams or Michael Sprott. no wonder he didnt sign sone funny things Haye has said about Macceranelli: Im not sure why Warren would perform such a massive u-turn, Haye said. After all, Im sure I read that Maccarinelli is supposed to be fighting either Steve Cunningham or Wayne Braithwaite on that July 21 date. Is that a lie? Then again, maybe it has something to do with all the rumours of television contractual problems that are circulating. After all, desperate times require desperate measures. Warren probably needs a fight like Haye versus Maccarinelli more now than ever. Its a fight terrestrial television would love. Its just a shame Warren didnt want it so desperately for April. Even if Braithwaite is the next opponent as has been rumoured Enzo would basically be fighting a guy who was battered from pillar to post by the man Im boxing next (Mormeck). And yet Maccarinelli and I are supposed to be on level terms. Braithwaite is meant to be a step-up for Maccarinelli even though Braithwaite has recently suffered two brutal defeats and been exposed at the top level. Haye continued: If Enzo had any balls whatsoever he would turn down Braithwaite and demand a fight with Guillermo Jones the man who stopped Braithwaite a couple of fights ago. I know Guillermo is available and ready to go, as we have contacted his people about possible sparring for my next fight. Hes apparently desperate for work right now and will travel anywhere for it. Braithwaite, on the other hand, according to his people, hasnt been heard from since his last sloppy win. Enzo will now probably fight a washed up and undisciplined Braithwaite and knock him out early, said Haye. Warren will call him the second coming of Muhammad Ali, Enzo will say hes being avoided by everyone, and the pair will continue with their ways. Anyone who fails to see that Maccarinelli is a protected fighter is basically either biased or without a brain - or both. Maybe Im wrong, though. Maybe they will finally give Bobby Gunn the rematch he and the world have been craving since their first epic encounter. In the meantime, Ill be boxing the best cruiserweight in the world and hopefully winning some green and gold strap.
That's incorrect. Haye agreed to the fight in principle with Frank Warren. The deal was a one-off fight in Cardiff in a co-headliner with Joe Calzaghe. Purse was something along the lines of 150K. When it came down to the signing of contracts, Maccarinelli signed his, and Haye, when seeing how the contract differed from what he was originally offered, refused. Warren went back on his word and installed options into the contract. The sticking point was the options Warren wanted on Haye's head when he knocked out Enzo. Warren wanted Haye's next five fights, culminating in a WBO title shot at heavyweight. Bottom line - Warren KNEW Haye would KO Maccarinelli and wanted a piece of the action when his fear/prediction was proved correct. He was the reason the fight fell through. The two fighters wanted the fight.
On the BBC2 replay of the fight Haye's said that he's trained every day since the Mormeck fight to stay in shape to see if the Macca match could be made. He says he knows it's a match the fans want, that he doesn't think it's a particularly big fight and that he'd bowl Macca over in a couple of rounds but that he'd make it for the fans. Thinks that it won't get made though.
I do remember reading that Mac signed the contract and Haye didn't show up to sign and went to Florida to train.
Haye has come out and said he would be delighted to fight Maccarinelli in a one off, no strings attached fight. He's even offered Enzo exactly that, as well as a career high £500,000 purse and a chance to keep his WBO belt. Everything was in Maccarinelli's favour and yet he has turned the offer down. He didn't want to know. What else needs to be said?
Look, Haye cannot be accused of ducking anyone. He went to France, fought the unified champ in his own backyard on a Don King. Haye has always taken difficult fights, even Carl Thompson was a massive risk so early in his career. Maccarinelli has fought practically no one, yet he and Warren have the gaul to shout stuff about Haye from a far. In my opinion Warren and Enzo are gutted that Haye is now undisputed cruiserweight number 1. It shows up their fight nobodies policy. I simply cannot put into words how I think Warren has robbed the British public of so many top bouts and fed his top boxers uncompetitive fighters. Calzaghe, Hatton (when with Warren), Arthur, and Maccarinelli plus many more have wasted years of their careers with this guy.
Gotta be fair to Haye, he is the REAL champ out of the both of them, Warren asking for options is a bitches way out. If he's so sure Enzo is the best let them fight. Maximum Repsect to Haye for trying to keep his weight down incase this happens. No respect to Macca for being a *****, I thought a promoter works for the fighter not the other way around. Enzo Mac is a fraud.
Speaking for the entire population of the world, yes. Warren's strategy has always been to flap his gums in the press, make half arsed offers which no'one in their right mind would take in an usually successful attempt to make the average sun reader believe that his wbu fighters are being ducked by the elite. I don't think Warren wants Enzo to fight Haye any more than he wanted him to fight Mormeck, that's why Haye is the undisputed champion and Enzo was steered toward that bergundy argos belt.
i think ppl are getting confused....Warren wanted options on a proposed April or july meeting between the two what happened post mormeck is a straight up brilliant offer for Macrinelli. A divisional high purse of £500k, WBA and WBC strap on the line. Mac can keep his WBO regardless as Haye had no interest in saying at cruiser. All he has to do is step into the ring with the Hayemaker. It was even at the cruiserweight limit (200lbs) which he knows Haye struggles to make, and is not so strong at (stamina and chin wise). Haye said they said "Hell No" What is the problem??? C'mon Mac fans...tell us why the boy Enzo Mac refuses to step up especially with the best offer he is ever likely to get in a unheralded division. does he not know that the fans want this fight?
I remember Warren admitted at one point that there was fight options on the Maccarinelli v Haye contract but it was ITV who had forced those options in there . The options were something like 4/5 fights on ITV(promoted by Frank Warren) which included defences of the WBO Cruiserweight title and a possible step up to heavyweight if desired(which presumely would of been against Skelton , Williams , Sprott , Harrison) . I believe Warren that there was options in the contract, what I'm not so sure about believing is that they were there because of ITV's wishes .
