This guy was a good amateur out of Azerbijan. Doesn't appear to be super active these days. Fought Usyk in WSB in a good fight. Could definitely be a quality pro. He's only 29! Anyone know the story?
There have been literally dozens of threads on this guy. He has talked about turning pro, and I believe the WSB idea was so that he could "turn pro" in way that would still allow him to fight in the Olympics. His cousin is the poor chap who is now permanently disabled after fighting Mike Perez, so that could influence his decision. The most famous clip of him his his near decapitation of Dychko, which someone will post in a few.
I doubt he'll ever really turn pro because the Azerbaijan team are really well taken care of and get a lot of incentives. Someone would have to pursue him
Joyce and Majidov are definitely the standouts in Olympics.. the number one seed guy is a little overrated IMO.. and the guy who KOd Joshua isn't all that..
He hits a ton, and can box. It would be a pity if he never turns professional. I wish the money in boxing was a bit better, especially at the lower levels.
With the right promoter, he could've moved as fast as Usyk or Beterbiev, if not Lomachenko. I think winning the gold in olympics means more to him.
