When Floyd retires and even if he retires undefeated and 50-0 or whatever his record is at the time he will for sure be a legit first ballot Hall of Famer and a deserving all-time great. However, when historians assess his legacy and put into account who he didn't fight, who he did fight and WHEN he fought them, he will lose points.

When one compares him to fellow all time greats like Leonard, Duran, Ali, etc. he will be ranked below them because he ducked his biggest rival who was smaller than him, along with ducking guys like Tszyu, Margarito and Paul Williams. He only fought Cotto after he had lost twice. He fought Mosley after he had lost, was old and although coming off a very solid win over a guy Floyd ducked (Margarito) was coming off a long layoff to boot. His win over Oscar was good but again Oscar was past his best. I wouldn't fault him so much if he didn't avoid those other guys.

The best win on his resume above 135 is Canelo who was green at the time. I will still give him full credit for that win though because Canelo was undefeated, much younger and bigger than Floyd. Of course, he never would have faced Canelo if Showtime didn't put a gun to his head after they lost 12 million on the Guerrero fight. He also gets major credit for his wins at 130 (best in that division ever) and 135. He didn't start ducking till he moved up to 140. The Maidana fights will hurt his legacy badly. People will say, "man, he went life and death with Maidana and we are supposed to compare him to Leonard?

Maidana will lose a couple more times and the rematch which was more convincing of a win than the first fight will hold no weight and the first fight (which Floyd barely won) will be viewed as a struggle that Leonard, Hearns or Duran never would have had. Can you honestly see Leonard, Duran or Hearns going life and death with Maidana and/or needing two fights to beat him convincingly? The best Floyd can hope for is that Maidana has a very good win in the near future, otherwise it will look even worse in retrospect. At least Pacquiao struggled with and was knocked out by a Hall of Famer. Floyd will go down about five slots above Oscar who although he lost some big fights, at least had the lluevos to face his biggest rivals and Hopkins who was much bigger than him and a legend. Pacquiao will be right there with Floyd.

Floyd wont rank nowhere near leonard, hearns, etc. Pac will rank higher. Pac already got knocked out and lost when he became fighter of the decade. Losing to marquez who is a future hof wont actually hurt pacs ranking. Pac mind you did beat marquez in the past before the ko. So yeah. Floyd doesnt care about ranks. He cares about money.

No doubt Floyd fought the best but not just at the best time:good
If he had taken certain risk, Paul The Punisher, he would not be undefeated IMO:yep

Love the guy or hate the guy he is a great boxer and while he is not TBE ( The Best Ever) he is great. Great self promoter, great boxer, and having that O has made him special but in my view you don't have to be undefeated to be great.
    TBE:-(

Not true bro. Go back and read my post, I was fair and gave him credit for certain things. Just because someone criticizes Floyd doesn't mean they hate him and love Pacquiao. I enjoy watching both of them fight for different reasons. Pacquiao is just more of a warrior and has more of an "I don't give a ****" attitude when it comes to who he fights. I was critical of him initially when with the whole blood testing thing but the ensuing years has allowed me to see Floyd for what he is. The demands have gotten more and more moronic. The latest one takes the cake. Leave Arum? Really Floyd. He has been Manny's promoter since day one. Why ALL OF A SUDDEN is he an issue? Wait, I know because the blood testing and money are no longer obstacles so it's time to create a new one. What's next, does Manny need to leave his wife?

I hate things he says and does outside the ring and I hate how little he cares about the fans and who they want him to fight and when they want him to fight them. That's for damn sure! As a boxer, he is fantastic and I have followed his career since '96. I am so disappointed though in how things turned out. He really screwed us.

Floyd will rank ahead of Manny and all boxing aficionados know it.

    Floyd is a 20-30

    Manny 50-60

I just don't know how someone could be a true boxing fan and not be disappointed at Floyd and quite frankly angry at how little he gives a **** about us or the sport that has made him rich and famous. He chose fear and I can never respect someone who chooses fear.

If all Floyd has to do is be greater than Manny Pacquiao then he has already accomplished that...end thread/
