maidana is a very average fighter and most guys at 147 would beat him

I'd favor around 4 or 5 fighters at 147 to beat Maidana:

Floyd, Pacman, bradley, Thurman, I'd probably also favor Khan and Porter over Maidana as well.

But he shouldn't be compared to Rios, they're on 2 completely different trajectories right now and while Maidana isn't the most skilled fighter, he's on a nice 4 fight win streak against pretty good competition and under Garcia he's learned a few things that's he's been utilizing during his fights (how to throw a decent jab.)

I'd rather Floyd fight Bradley or Manny, but Maidana as a consolation prize isn't that bad considering he actually earned his shot.

look at the accomplishments of " average fighters". their accomplishments are , well, average. Maidana is not an average fighter.

floyd should be fighting manny full stop.we know he's head and shoulders above anyone else, and maidana is below top level welterweights imo, broner isnt a welterweight and was over hyped anyway so a win over him doesnt make him number 1 challenger.floyd needs to stop being a ***** and fight the 1 man the paying public actually want him to fight.
i will give anyone on here now 1000/1 on maidana and comfortably know im not going to lose

    Good thread.
I've said it time and again, Maidana doesn't deserve the Floyd-fight.

He made us all happy by whipping Broner, but that is something any half decent WW could've done, dude arguably lost to Malignaggi beforehand...

His other big win is Ortiz, another exposed hypejob, and he almost got blasted out in 1 round in that fight.

Other big wins? No, only couple of gatekeepers like Corley, Lopez, Soto Karass that he had to beat in order to stay somewhat relevant in the division. Why do you think Broner chose to fight him in the first place? Because he knows Maidana is ****, problem was Broner was even worse without knowing it.

Maidana arguably lost to ancient fat Erik Morales, he lost to Kotelnik, he lost and almost got KOed by a bodyshot from Amir Khan, but the one fight that really stands out and should've put all the talk about how Maidana is a worthy challenger for Floyd to rest is the one where he COULDN'T WIN A SINGLE ROUND VS DEVON FRIGGIN ALEXANDER!!!

Marquez, Pacquiao, Bradley......these fighters are not true welters and yet I'd not only favor them to beat Maidana, I'd pick each to dominate him and dominate him thoroughly!

Thats how much of a mismatch Mayweather vs Maidana is.

he beat matthysse in the amateurs.

he also has a more decisive win over soto-karass than thurman.

he's the first guy to beat ortiz.

he may look average...but his punching is not average.

I don't know why you gents keep playing Maidana cheap. Will he beat Floyd? I don't think so because to keep it real, Floyd is the best in the business and can't nobody at 147 beat him. What I do know is that Maidana is second to nobody when it's time to fight. He has no fear and he comes for that ass from round one to the end. He does have boxing skills, not on a Mayweather level but definitely on the level of any other fighter or champion at 147. That Khan and Devon **** is old and even apply to what Maidana brings to the table now. When he fought those gents, he was just a come forward fighter with heart. Now he's working with a good jab, he slips punches and he has added to his punch selection. Right now, he would beat the brakes off Khan and Devon. I would pick Maidana against Bradley, Marquez and Ruslan. A toss up between him and Pac and him and Porter. I think Thurman edges him out. It a good choice for Mayweather because he will have to work until the job is done. People hating on this fight has no faith in Maidana winning and I can understand that but he will put up just as good or better fight than anyone else at 147.

Maidana is a paper champion. Guerrero, Ortiz, and now Maidana. Has to be the worst trio of champions a fighter has on their resume.

Pack up your hairspray as that fight was forever ago bro:patsch
Floyd makes all look like a first time dancer at the prom:rofl

Maidana is a warrior and he will bring his best but he shall not win. The dude is a prize fighter with heart and determination.

This fight will be better than the Ghost or Canelo because Maidana will throw and take risk.

Thurman looked more impressive vs soto IMO
And matthysse beat Devon clear while some would argue Maidana couldn't even when a round when he faced Devon :deal

Will, focus, grit, determination, and self-confidence are attributes that can't be measured. Marcos possesses all of these qualities, in abundance. Never count people like him out.
