I see Alexander as abit of a bum Fought lots of nobody's and failed to perform is a great fashion against good fighters Fighting in his hometown as usual... He seems to like to sit on the ropes alot, Maidana is gonna punish his ass. Odds look nicely in devon's favour.. time to make some money
I have actually had this conversation with quite a few people, I honestly think Alexander may box his way on the outside and beat Maidana comfortably, Of course I could be wrong but I just don't see Maidana doing anything different apart from pressing forward. It just depends on who adapts to 147 better.
I sure as hell hope so. Maidana has already lost before it's even begun though, if he can't force a stoppage... what with it being in Devon "hometown hero" Alexander's backyard again.
People forget Maidana got outboxed by a one-eyed, super past it Morales. Now I'm not comparing Morales (even past prime) to Alexander but Maidana looked pretty bad for entire spans of that fight. Devon Alexander may be a hometown, gift decision fighter, but he's got enough skill to fight off the back foot and make Maidana look plodding. Could go either way.
I agree that it's close, but it took a lot of savvy from Morales to time and tag Maidana so often while disrupting his rhythm, which Alexander just doesn't have. Consider this; Khan has the superior jab, the superior hand speed, the more accurate combinations, the tighter guard, and the faster feet. He still got caught on the inside in the mid-rounds and timed with a bomb late in the fight. To me, Alexander might do well, but with the improvements Maidana has made himself, I don't see Devon having the necessary tools to defend himself.
Well, what really screwed Khan in that fight despite all those advantages was that under pressure he has a horrible habit of moving straight back with his hands down which produced that overhand right from Maidana that damn near cost him the fight. Plus as we've seen, Khan has zero inside game. Devon is a bit smarter than that. And while he doesn't hold as many advantages over Maidana that Khan did, he has just enough to keep himself out of danger. His advantage and possible downfall is that he's willing to exchange inside for short periods of time. That's Maidana's best chance, but Alexander also can use it to get in, get out and reset. It'll be an interesting little scrap.
first off let me say i hope ur right that maidana does ko devon . but i do disagree with u when u say devon fought bums . he fought bradley , mathyysee , kotelnik , n now maidana . he failed to impress but doesnt fight bums . i dont like him but he does fight good people . i hate how the fight is in his home town n i cant believe maidana is taking this fight giving the circumstances . maidana needs to knock him out within 10 rds sense its only a ten round fight . which heavily favors devon . i could see devon winning majority of the rounds but him tiring at the end but luckily it will be over by the time the gas ran outta his tank. if the fight were to go 2 more rounds i think maidana chances increases drastically . n even if maidana does win legitly on the score cards which in a ten rd fite i think it will be diffucult 4 him to do but if he does hes getting robbed on the scorecards just like kotelnik n lucas. not to mention the ring there gunna b fightin in is probably going to be huge will which will work in devons favor so he can runaway hittin maidana wit his quick lil pitty pat one twos n get outta there , devon wins this fight its dang near impossible for maidana 2 win . its fixed st louis is protecting him .
well maidana still won the fite . u can say he got outboxed but u must admit he won the fight. and i think maidana really underestimated him and it was good lesson learned by maidana to make sure he gets up 4 every fight.
If Morales didn't have one eye, Maidana wouldn't have won that fight. Now that's not anyone's fault, and kudos to Maidana for doing the damage, but he looked incredibly poor against a faded Morales.
You raise good points, but that bit that I highlighted is something I consider Alexander's biggest flaw that he's habituated himself to much worse than Khan. He didn't learn from the Kotelnik fight going backwards against Bradley, and he paid for it again against Matthysse. I believe that overhand right can find its mark, and as you said, those moments where he exchanges could cost him big. But it is an interesting match with no sure conclusion.
