Oh well maybe I'm mistaken. But I think both of them are better than Maidana in terms of skill. Ortiz just fought stupid and paid the price.
Ortiz fell to his knees and quit because he had had enough of being punched very hard in the head and body. If Maidana didn't hit so hard then I guess Ortiz would not have felt so "mentally weakened" by the shots. At the weigh in when they were face to face in bare feet there was hardly any difference in height between Khan and Maidana and Khan has only a 1 inch reach advantage. Sounds like a preemptive strike to downplay the win should Khan be victorious.
Its worse when you're in there with a guy who hits you hard, but can't knock you out. I never said Maidana can't hit hard, I just said that he's not as big a puncher as some have made him out to be. And I have no reason to downplay's Khan's win.
I agree with this. I saw his early fights with very weak opposition and he didnt show any superiority nor amazing power. His wins were TKOs by accumulation of punches that didnt look too powerful at all. I was however pretty impressed with his win over Ortiz who I consider really good. All in all I expect Khan to dominate this fight and win by UD.
A large part of getting knocked out cold is due to not seeing the punch coming so you are unable to brace yourself for it. With maidana even if you see the shot coming and brace yourself for it, it still hurts too much for most of his opponents to handle. Belittling the power of a man with a 90% KO record and your mentioning Khans imaginary height and reach advantages appears very much like trying to take the shine off any khan victory.
The problem with this thinking is that Khan, and very few other champion quality fighters for that matter, have ever successfully come back from a KO after being undefeated. the only ones I can think of that have had continued success in which the KO did not affect them are Holyfield, Lewis, Duran and Glencoffee. Once an undefeated fighter gets KO'd or beatdown he is rarely ever the same. Some names coming to mind in recent times are Meldrick Taylor, Vargas, JT, Pavlik, RJ and Hearns. If history is any indication, Khan will get beatdown again sooner if not later. Khan has many similiarities to Terry Norris. Great skills but no chin.
Agreed. Ortiz should have beat Maidana but he fought a stupid fight and paid the price for it. Khan's not going to do that with Roach in his corner.
Look there's a difference between being hurt (ouch) feeling pain, and hurt in the sense of being concussed. Maidana has good thudding power that can break you down like he did Ortiz, but he's not a one punch KO guy. I'm not belittling anything just calling it how I see it. And why do you think I have some kind of agenda to discredit Khan?
That's because Freddie Roach takes ruined fighters and injects their chins with A-Side Meth, cherry picks overrated opponents for them and turns them into PPV superstars. He is boxing's evil genius. A mad scientist, even.
I think khan will win tonight but i've seen alot of maidana and he aint slow!!! and he can bang!!! but i dont think there is many fighters that can follow a game plan like khan! i think khan will win by tko in round 9! but this is a VERY DANGEROUS FIGHT
