Maidana & Khan contract update:

There have been recent reports on the issue of purse splits and how it should be divided.

Apparently the split is not the issue, infact there is no split. Apparently Maidana is asking for a guaranteed figure, the exact figure Im not sure, but guaranteed figure is the sticking point, because potentially someone might be left short changed. Anyway you may recall this was the method of agreement that Golden Boy offered to Khan to sign with them and it was applied to the Malignaggi fight.

Now I mentioned that guaranteeing a figure could possibly short change someone, also bear in mind this fight is being co-promoted by Khan promotions. Now HBO who have offered to televise, have already offered what they think its worth. Problem arises that there isn't enough money in the kitty to meet everyone's demands. GBP have a guaranteed share, they arranged the fee with HBO, Khan promotions needs a fee to promote the fight in the UK, it has to be treated as a separate entity to Khan the fighter. That then leaves fighters, venue and promotion in the states.

I truly believe no one is ducking anyone, contract negotiatons rarely go smoothly because both parties want the best possible deal, which usually involves holding out or threatening to pull out. Also highly publicised bouts such as Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacq tend to leave a misconception that all HBO fights must be worth mega millions. In reality this is a good fight on paper, but definitely not mega millions to satisfy a piece of the cake for all parties involved.

Expect the fight to be finalized soon. P.S. word is Victor Ortiz was always a plan B for both parties, citing injury or unforeseen circumstances.
