So I watched this fight yesterday. Not much in the way of defense, but that's not why I made this topic. Why did Ortiz quit? The cut didn't look that bad at all.
It had nothing to do with the cut. Apparently he was having out-of-the-ring issues and wasn't fully focused. My guess is that he walked in wanting an early night - which explains his aggressive approach. Then, upon realising this guy ain't going nowhere, he found himself in too deep, and decided to take the easy way out to fight another day.
Ortiz is a mentally weak quitter, he's quit since then, broken jaw or not he quit. He pretty much quit against Mayweather coming over to hug him 99 times and looking to the ref instead of lifting his hands up when he got legally hit
Broken jaw aside, he had the same look in the Lopez fight. Expected to blow the guy away, failed and then looked like he didn't want to be there. Comes down to the way you're made. It's either plant your feet and out will the ****er infront of you, or look for an escape.
Ortiz just doesn't seem like one to battle it out when things aren't his way. Seemed a bit too happy to lose to Mayweather and just gave up despite the kd not looking hard at all. Guy is good but a few screws lose and doesn't seem to have the mental buildup to be a consistently good fighter. That said the quitting against Maidana doesn't change the fact that it was a very entertaining fight. Why is this on Classic BTW lol? Wanted to avoid the "glass jaw" & "he's a *****!" usual immaturity there?
