Alexander might have more speed and talent but Maidana has alot of heart. If he gave Khan a good scare he might overwhelm Alexander. Plus I think once he gets tired he gets lured into Maidanas type of fight at close range phone booth type of fight.
People need to stop confusing aesthetially conventional technique with more effective boxing skills. Khan had the better punching form, the superior hand-speed, the better jab, and much better movement, and he was still caught. Alexander has worse defensive flaws in his guard, and Maidana has gotten technically better. Those that have so much faith in a comfortable Alexander win overrate his skills.
I'm picking Alexander based on the fact that it's 10 rounds, in STL, and we don't yet know how Maidana will punch at 147. I'll be rooting for Chino tho.
When the fight was first made i liked maidana, but couldnt but to think he went through life and death against corely and morales and they are so shot. So i will take alexander by dec.
What's the early price on the Indian? Alexander is a fighter I'd always take a punt against.Seems to have reached his summit already for me.Maidana's hurtin' bombs always keep you in with a chance if the price is right.
He was badly trained for Corely, who just stunk it out, and Morales is far more skilled, durable, and aggressive than Alexander, even now. I'm confident if Alexander wins a comfortable decision, it won't be one that sits well with the crowd/viewers/fans.
i think you might be overating madiana abit he take long periods of time off during his fights to catch his breath that what let morales make it so close. alexander is fast and has a hight punch output and loves diping that straight right to come back with a jab and a straight left. and its not as if you dont see madianas punches coming. the great Ko
He does take breaks, but Alexander's output, while busy, is so easily time-able, I don't see why Maidana wouldn't get to him the same way he got to Khan, who is much superior in movement and punching form. All Kotelnik had to do was don a high guard and he absorbed virtually all of Alexander's predictable offense. It may seem like I'm overrating him, but it's only because people underrate him. They look at a guy like Alexander and go "oh, he looks more skilled, I'll go with him", without taking into account the fact that style and conventional aesthetics don't always translate into effective abilities in the ring. Maidana is just as hard-hitting (or maybe moreso) than Matthysse and much more aggressive & unpredictable, and Alexander is technically worse than Morales and much less durable. Maidana's instincts and sense of timing backing his power in the ring are what got him this far, and with improving technique, he's only going to become more dangerous.
