Great fight. I think Spence of a few years ago probably before the crash would be able to decision Maidana fairly comfortably. Spence doesn't get the credit he deserves IMO, and Crawford was an awful match up for him. (I thought Crawford would beat Spence but I do rate Spence highly as a fighter) Spence likes to give a good body shot, and certainly Maidana hates taking a good body shot. I also see Spence winning the battle of the jabs at long range. Spence's strengths align well with Maidana's weaknesses. So, yeah - I fancy Maidana to really suit Spence's style and I think Spence would pick Maidana apart enough to head and body to get the judges nod winning 9 to 3 rounds. I'm expecting Errol Spence to be underrated as hell on this one.
With the kind of poor timing Spence has they would have to roll him out of there on a stretcher if Maidana got to him.
Spence by a lopsided UD (like 118-110). Maidana's style is very troubling against pure boxers (or fake pure boxers like Broner), that wanna sit in the pocket, pick their shots and fight at their own pace. That ain't Spence, he ain't gonna walk down Spence, he's gonna be walked down by Spence. Spence is pure pressure, activity and physical strength. Spence is dedicated to the body (even at the point where he flirts with losing points) and Maidana is actually fairly weak to the body. I think he ends up beating on Maidana severely. I think Maidana survives but all the air will be out of the balloon by round 12.
Maidana couldn't KO Khan. That is sacrilege if you are a puncher. And Khan hurt him badly to the body. Spence is a great body puncher. This has Spence win written all over it.
The shot Khan caught him with was 1 in a million, and Maidana evolved between that fight and the Floyd fight, 2014 Maidana absolutely destroys Khan, and I've seen nothing from Spence at any point in his career to justify the ridiculous hype he got. Besides, styles make fights, and Spence isn't the kind to get on his bike the way Khan did, he would be in range all night against Maidana and I don't see him weathering the storm. The Maidana that fought Khan, the Maidana that constantly crossed his feet and didn't use the jab, probably gets killed by a pre-crash Spence, but if we're going peak for peak there is nothing to make me choose Spence in this matchup
Maidana gave Floyd hell and drew the first fight imo. He got schooled by Devon Alexander though so really hard to pick.
