He's a tough guy that punches extremely hard. he's not the most technically gifted, but I was live when he battered ortiz. Pretty impressive beatdown.
If Khan can work behind his jab from the outside, he will have a great chance at beating Maidana. Kahn has better speed, footwork, and technique but has to be careful and not fight Maidana in a brawl or in the inside. One punch from Maidana can change the fight if not end it. I didn't see the Chop Chop fight, but Maidana usually looks to have great conditioning for a 12 rounder. Amir will have to make "El Chino" respect his power, otherwise Khan just might get caught.
Kotelnik timed the hell out of Alexander. I still believe a 115-113 score for Alexander is appropriate, because most of the work was done by him. Kotelnik was catching Alexander all night. However, if you watch HBO with Harold Lederman scoring, it is clearly stated that Alexander was controlling the fight.
Very overated after the Ortiz win then that made people also underate him. They compare him to Urango when in fact they are not taht much alike. Yes he hits hard and loops his shots. Chin is very good which makes up for his lack of D. speed is where he is much different than Urango. He is not slow like people make him out to be. Thats the only reason he is so competitive when he is so limited in his defense. Well his power also helps but if the power dont land its useless. His power lands because he has deceptive hand speed. I think Khan will either look amazing in this fight and be considered the top guy of the division or he will look terrible and possibly get TKOd.
Marcos has got buckloads of raw power, loads of heart and determination...and not a bad chin...basically everything Khan lacks in. In my honest opinion, Amir's best gameplan for this fight is to not turn up....vacating the belt will do him less damage than the inevitable KO he will face in the fight.
Best answer so far. Thank you. Also i dont really want predictions for the fight. The thread was made so i can come to my own conclusions. Thanks and keep them coming guys.
if kotelnik can outbox maidana then khan will have no trouble handling this guy....and for everyone who thinks this is khans real test...you have got to be kidding me.
Maidiana can fight, he made ortiz quit and then followed that with a ko from a bodyshot, he has alot more then power.
If Khan and Roach get a tape of the Corley fight, the first thing they should do? is trash it. Maidana was fat and out of shape for that fight. To be on the safe side, Khan should expect to see the Maidana that showed up for Ortiz, Kotelnik, Cayo.
Maidan keeps his hands high, but he throws a ton of punches. This is where his vulnerability lies. You have to punch with him and counter him or he just won't stop. He throws short, hard arm punches inside. He fouls prolifically. He throws a lot of different punches from different angles. He does look to set up certain shots. For example, he under-uses the right uppercut, and openings surface for it later on which he then takes advantage of. He can lead with the right hand to great effect. He uses angles on the inside. He'll step to a side and pummel you between the guard and around the side of the head. He's probably going to hurt Khan very badly. Khan's got too much pride (and is too stupid) to quit like Ortiz did. He'll absorb a lot of body punishment (you see how much Malignaggi found his body? Malignaggi isn't even a body puncher. Wait till Maidana gets to him).
It's crazy how Khan has these "massive fans" who don't even follow boxing. I guess it has to start somewhere. Where are you from?
