He will leave everything he's got in the ring but that just isnt enough to win a round this time. Pathetic chose of an opponent by floyd as usual and this is not insult towards maidana who is absolute warrior but he is so over matched it isnt even funny. I am glad maidana will make good retirement money from this. Road warrior who was involved in countless of thrilling wars and he never left any card to be turned in the ring. It was great ride with marcos.
Why do people make these same tiresome threads? There's been at least 300 of these threads since the fight was announced.
Calling Maidana a pathetic choice of an opponent is certainly an insult to Maidana. It's not like he's a prospect. He's a veteran fighter and a world champion. Anytime you have a unification bout and you describe one of e combatants as a pathetic opponent, it most certainly is an insult to that fighter.
While I think the OP exaggerates, the truth is that it isn't a good fight and him having one of the 5 or 6 WW titles means nothing. A bit weak that you even tried to justify it like that. Maidana has NO good wins. Fact. Broner was not a good win. Marcos owned him and that was impressive...but Broner in 2 fights a WW looked like sh*t.
There are four main belts and Maidana has one one of them. I'm not not trying to to justify anything. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but you can't have it both ways. You can't call a holder of one of the major titles pathetic and then try to claim you're not insulting him. Winning a major world title is far from easy. But again, that's the problem when analyzing pro sports. The people analyzing it are removed from that world and lack a great understanding of what it takes to get to certain levels.
I agree, it seems to have been meant as an insult. I look at it by 2 factors: 1. Is the guy a good fighter with good wins on his resume? The answer in this case is no. Ok, is it at least a good style matchup? No. Maidana is slow in hand and foot speed and has lost convincingly to the guys who moved and boxed. If Devon shut him out...certainly Floyd would and Garcia isn't going to make a difference. They have only worked together for 2 fights... that is like 6 months of total training. Enough to improve...but not much.
This is what I'm talking about, I think there is a lack of perspective here when you say Maidana is not a good fighter and has no good wins. There are thousands of pro fighters at WW and he's one of the 10 best. He's one of only 4 guys with a major title. So how exactly is he not a good fighter? Maidana might get outclassed tonight, but he's certainly earned his shot. Corrales was ranked higher than Mayweather in the division and on the p4p list. He got absolutely dismantled. That happens sometimes in boxing. You can talk about Maidana losing to Alexander, but Pacquiao was knocked out cold and outboxed by a guy that Mayweather outboxed with ease. Regardless, that's still a fight everyone wants to see. At the end of the day, if you don't like the fight, simply don't watch it. However, it makes little sense to crush a guy for fighting a top 10 fighter in his division who's also a fellow title holder; it's even more absurd when you consider there weren't any better viable options out there.
Maidana has no defense, he comes in with his hands high and protecting his head and sticking a measurement jab to the body and stretching to the guy's head - that is a temptative, slow jab that will take him to be outpunched, outjabbed and taking counters all night long. If he wants to hurt somebody like he did to Broner, he has to take punches, close the distance, open his wings and let that awkward right fall over the left shoulder of his opponent, while his left arm digs in inside uppercuts and short left hooks. But he has to open up and take punches to start with cause he is not fast or light footed, wise or illusive enough to get in without being caught. And that's where I can see him suffering the same fate Ortiz did or the way Hatton payed heavily later on.
Good post.:good Madaina is an EXCELLENT fighter....a 2 weight, 4 time world titlist. He's no less than #9 at WW. BUT....being a titlist, in and of itself doesnt necessarily justify a solid fight for Roid. There's ONLY 1 fight at 147 worth the fans time ATM, and perhaps, Keith Thurman will emerge as the next p4per worth a fight of this magnitude. But as of now, only Lara and Pac are worthy adversaries, and I think that's what the OP is eluding to.:think But good post, like I said:thumbsup
And I'd like to add, that Khan, even with his abysmal glass jaw, is still a bigger threat to Roid at 147. His speed advantage over Roid is why this fight was made instead of Khan.atsch
