Joshua Joseph Popper vs. Michael DiOrio, 4 rounds @ heavyweight

 

Popper, making his pro debut, is a failed NFL player (signed with the Arizona Cardinals in 2016 but was cut before the seasons started). Color commentator Albert Haynesworth said he scouted him as an outside linebacker, and says he's very athletic but you never know how somebody will respond to getting hit in the face because you don't play boxing. True dat.

 

Popper moves well, is strong as a bull, and can switch hit. Good tools.

Scored a nice looping left KO1 there.

 

Maidel Sando vs. Derrick Findley, 10 rounds @ super middleweight

 

"Superman" looks in awesome shape at 40. He's coming off a victory...but it was a SD in a 4-rounder versus a guy with a losing record, and before that he lost three on the spin. His last meaningful victory was upsetting Donovan George via kayo in 2017.

Question here is: how good is the undefeated Cuban-Tennessean in the other corner? Guess we're to find out shortly...

Findley is ducking low - making him an incredibly difficult target as he already stands just 5'6" - and tossing right hand torpedoes at the body. Sando tossing out double jabs and occasional swatting hooks and circling out wide, standing up tall. Very different approaches here. Neither able to land consistently or impose generalship yet with a minute left on the clock. Sando waving the jab in Findley's face and tickling him with quick underhanded rights on the body below his elbows. Little power on them, just point-scorers.
