Main Event's message re Geale/Sylvester

Gotta agree with Buster here.
Green has for the most part shown that being a down to earth Aussie can get the publics attention as much as being a braggart.
For whatever reason, Green and Mundine seem so far ahead of everyone else when it comes to public profiles in Australian boxing.

While they may well be working harder than I realise, I'd be very interested to know what the media people behind guys like Geale, Darchiniyan and Katsidis get up to.
Constant media releases, connections with high profile sponsors, getting involved in charity events, appearing on local radio, proper promotion of their websites and so on are just some examples of how athletes can build their profiles.
Sure, many may not be bothered, but until they really work at it they shouldn't expect a sport such as boxing (which as much as we hate to admit it) is quite minor in Australia these days, to make them famous.

Sakio Bika after the contender win is a sad example of being far too idle. He had all the opportunity in the world after this, yet so little fuss was made in promoting him.

 

Mundine i think was the exception to the rule. He was always going to have that cross over appeal because he was a high profile league player, the media were always going to follow him. I think if he tried his hand at any indivdual sport they would of been on him anyway, it just so happened to be boxing. Read an article 2 weeks ago in the telegraph were Geale was having a media workout day in Sydney, his last session before leaving for Germany. One reporter and camera man showed up !. He will have way more on him at the media workout in Neubrandenburg tomorrow.

 

jesse brinkley, peter manfredo (who bika crushed), cornelius bundrage(current IBF champ) have done....

bika really has to blame his management, he had the style to be a champ now he is just a high profile payday, who will put up a good fight- much the same as lovemore ndou.. only bika had more going for him

 

From what I have heard, Bika was his own worst enemy when it came to his promotional career.
